Definitely not good news. Traders will have a field day when trading resume. Lots of stop losses will be triggered. Anyone with QAN shares on margin loan will need to review their portfolio ASAP.

Surely, no one is that silly:shock:

On a lot of those routes the "schedule advantage" is marginal at best - SYD MEL the difference between a flight every 15 minutes and every half hour isn't worth the cost.

But YM appear to be pretty good at cancelling those -15 or -45 flights if they look like they'll be going out under-utilized. I've lost count of the number of texts I've received (and not received) to tell me my flight is cancelled.

It's now got to the stage where I will deliberately book the 17:45 SYD-MEL because the chances are it will be cancelled - it's usually significantly cheaper than the 18:00.

BD

Can't be cheap to keep doing that though. Probably cheaper than flying empty but there's still a plane sitting around empty somewhere.

I don't disagree ... I can't imagine that it's done in isolation either, that SYD-MEL then needed to go onwards from MEL (back to SYD, maybe). But then, try getting an ADL-MEL flight mid-afternoon on a Sunday - where have all those planes suddenly disappeared to?

The cost of that 15 min schedule is incurred well beyond the cancelling of flights midweek. I suppose one of the benefits of running the now-retiring 767s was that they'd been paid for long ago.

BD
