1st QFi as WP and 1st Op-up

Pretty sure I said SINGAPORE

Also if you know plane so well you'd know that CX 330s don't have B in economy.

Cheers to next poster who knows what they are talking about and there is in fact 4 bassinets in that row.

Agreed with Markis re OBB's sentiment. QF fly a number of different aircraft to SIN. Her knowledge regarding these issues would be up there on AFF!

FWIW QF have used a number of different aircraft between PER and SIN within the last 24 months or so (767, 333, 332 int, 332 dom, 747).

Is this where I post my grumble as I rocket towards LTG and have never had an op-up on QF? :s :s

And it was nice of them to re-seat you in J.

Maybe the answer is to give WP one guaranteed upgrade a year, and everything else is based on luck.

Personally I'd prefer to leave it as is given I've had 1 int. and 2 dom. upgrades out of my last 10 QF flights (including one on an ASA booking), but at the same time I know that the mileage varies wildly amongst the punters on here.

Several US airlines and Virgin Australia have upgrade certificates, which allow "free" upgrades. I like these, however over the years they have tightened the T&Cs and increased the base fare required, so you need to spend more (and research more) to use these instruments.

For a period United 1K status could be maintained for about $8-12K AUD, flying 4 roundtrips to NYC booked in discount Y and upgraded using SWUs (and a few other random segments to get the required mileage). Sadly this is a lot harder (and more costly) to do now. Also UA SWUs don't clear like they used to... The sweet spot was when they introduced the flat-bed seats in J on the 744s, before they started devaluing 1K status.

I think upgrade credits were great and then they were taken away to be replaced with loyalty bonus.

If you earned 1200 SCs in a year you would get 3 UCs which were good for a one-way upgrade to business class on a SYD-SIN/BKK-HKG. You had 12 months to use them.

It was great value compared to the loyalty bonus which gives you maximum 32,000 points.

Well QFF replaced it with points of close to equal value (1 UC = 8,000 points , which is equal to an old Zone 1 upgrade) so there's no a lot of difference there.
The current system has max 32k points which is 4 UC on the old system. That's 4x Zone 1 upgrades/year or nearly enough to upgrade a SYD-LHR. Obviously 32k points is a long way short of a SYD-LHR upgrade so overall is a 70% devaluation.

Tis a little confusing as why it stops after the 4th loyalty bonus. Presumably it ends there because you're borderline P1 territory, which brings it's own benefits which outweigh 8,000 points. A little margin in there to make you want to go that little extra, or not care. Either way QFF wins.

I think it could be improved by giving Plat and above certainty of upgrades - eg: confirmed when booking. Like sub classes of classes. So like U class is broken into UA and UB where UA is plat+ inventory and UB is hidden/reserved inventory for a last minute CL/P1 bookings/points bidding/whatever QFF can dream up.

At the end of the day, everyone wants an upgrade and QFF wants more points to be earned/burned. Finding a sweet spot for both QFF and customer is going to be tricky, but the more QFF understands about what you really want, the more rewarding it can be for both parties. They'll get there one day :D

Previously it was 5,000 QFF points and 450 SCs. I think it was only 400 SCs when upgrade credits were around.

One thing to note with the new enhancement is that it is now Qantas SCs only for 8,000 QFF points so that is another of those "enhancements". Not saying it is right or wrong but I will not be earning 2,000 SCs on QF flights so will receive less loyalty bonus.

It is all about balance. Upgrade too much and you lose those who will buy J seats, upgrade not enough and you annoy those stuck in the back.

The right balance will avoid the premium cabins becoming like the American situation, hence why QF may seem tight with upgrades.

not half as tight as SQ

no need for that response. You've only been here 5 minutes. Pull your head in and have respect for the experience (time after time after time .....not one off) that you may benefit from on this site.

Bassinet and baby beat any status an airline can dish out!

Take the seat = take the risk.

From experience I am not able pre-allocate a bassinet on international flights.

I've been able to allocate 38 D/E/G/F at time of booking for our trip back from SIN early this year.......paid off - but I knew the risk and was prepared to move if a baby was in need.

Your obviously fairly new to flying elite status with Qantas if you expect to sit up front and not be bothered by babies or you expect QF to fill the J cabin, row 23 is not the favourite here by many who have flown A330s for more than the baby reason.
Give me an innocent crying baby for 9 hours instead of a selfish, ignorant, cough with gadgets any day.

Does my having an iPad with noise cancelling headphones on my flights make me a selfish, ignorant cough?

No. But if you are selfish, ignorant, cough with gadgets then that is a huge problem.

And a selfish, ignorant, cough without gadgets isn't a problem?

Gadgets just enhance the problem.

I jus wish men would stop blaming their gadgets
