I am trying to book flights to Dubai and Europe for next July; peak I know.

On the Emirates site I can get direct Adl - Dubai return in J; plus Dubai - Venice then Athens Dubai in Y for approx $11,000 for two people.

On the Qantas site, I have just searched Adl - Dubai return in J (and no other flights) and it is approx $14,000 for two people.

Both flights are on Emirates metal; direct Adl - Dubai. (ie, the same plane) What the heck is happening?

It's called Qantas.

I still do not know who is flying them outside of their sale periods

But this is a nonsense isn't it? Why push people to Emirates who would then use them exclusively internationally? esp now Qantas have given up on Adelaide.

Its the cost of providing QF points and status credits on the flights :D

Maybe they need the option to purchase flights without having status credit points attached? $3000 for what - 180 credits each? And of course, I have had to calculate that Melbourne - Dubai rather than Adl - Dubai because the Qantas calculator tells me there are no direct flights Adl - Dubai. Sometimes Qantas, you really do hate your customers!

Another point that is being missed here is that it isn't unusual to find the cost of flying from AU to EU is cheaper or the same price as AU to DXB. Both QF and EK have done this previously, so not just limited to the Roo. It has been explained before as something to do with the number of seats available to both markets impacts the price...

I dont seem to be able to get an EK flight number - on the Emirates/Qantas flight. It comes up as QF but on EK metal. How do I get an EK flight number?

Yes, I do know that travel onwards to Europe is often "at no charge" but I am still left with a $3000 deficit for exactly the same seats. I have seen this with SQ flights onwards from Singapore.

Pushka, have a look at CX - they have an early bird on at present with quite good prices to Europe.
