Majority 'don't trust' female airline pilots

No probs with a lady driving the ship - if they meet the requirements/training, that's good enough for me!

Running the country on the other hand, they're off to a pretty bad start! :p

Let's see how 3 years of Despicable T and his merry minions turn out in comparison, shall we?

No - I withdraw that because A.) It is best left to another thread, and B.) The whole point of the argument is that competence should never be linked to gender .. unless you are patriarchal/chauvinistic/misogynist.

WHAT. Women flying planes, that's ludicrous.
Who invited them out of the galley

Don't really care as to the gender of the person flying the bus. I've been on many flight with female pilots and didn't think twice about it.

Thats the same as with any job, don't really care about the gender of the person, provided that they have been appropriately trained, and they are capable of doing the job, that's all I care about.

Yawn. Another stupid media article based on rubbish.
I have never heard of that company and I assume it is a leisure flight package company... Yawn. Let me just say, they find the most interesting people to fly away with.

For those that don't trust women you should be looking at Wellington on SBS One now-the building of Wellington bombers.

Sir Reginald Ansett lives. :(

Talking of flying knights. If I recall rightly, I seem to remember that Sir Joh's pilot was female way back in the 1970s and one could hardly call him progressive in other matters.

I actually find it rather soothing when the voice from the flight deck comes on and it's obviously female by sound and/or name and says "This is the Captain".

A female train driving colleague of mine was a part of a newspaper article about different generations of drivers in her family. She was quoted as saying that she still sees that people are surprised when they see a female train driver.

Knowing how the media can misquote people, I asked her if she did say that & she did.

Depending on the part of the organisation, up to around 20% are women.

All praise to the pilot who landed the QF at the military base the other night !!! Oh the pilot was female !

Sorry, I didn't know that military bases were any harder to land at than civilian ones :!:

..... and from my experience they aren't.

I think it's more to do with keeping the cool after the 2 go-arounds at SYD prior to the diversion more than anything.

Not long ago, a female commuter train driver in the US was hailed a hero when she stopped the train just in time to avoid running over someone who jumped onto the tracks just before the train arrived. I'm not saying that a male driver can't do this, but the fact is females can get the job done just as well.

This is timely because today I had a female pilot and I thought about this very issue.

My very first thought after hearing her voice from the coughpit was 'I wonder if she's qualified' which is absolutely absurd. It was more of an instinctual 'surprise' that my fate would be in the hands of a female pilot - when I have a male pilot, I barely bat an eyelid. I'm certainly not a misogynist nor do I consciously discriminate by gender, which is why my gut reaction and initial response puzzled me.
