Re: Status Credits on reward seats

How come this thread jumped to VA from QF section?

Because it was merged with another thread already discussing this in the QF section.

Re: Status Credits on reward seats

The initial thread was merged with the main Qantas one on this topic. However, these posts has now been moved back as the OP is a question one how Virgin might better this offer.

IMHO, quite easily - Discount economy SC's on award flights - not much interest from AFFers I reckon.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Re: Status Credits on reward seats

I think there would be plenty of interest Serfty, in fact there has been many posts about earning SC's on rewards seats and there was huge interest when Virgin did it last time.

Your opinion of quite easily - discount on economy SC's on award flights doesn't better the offer it just matches. My question was almost rhetorical to insight response.

As it stands I have a large number of QF points but do not fly QF but I could be tempted to now to earn a QF status. I am sure there is plenty of people thinking that as well, would Virgin want me crossing over?

Well no that doesn't count as that deal is in the past. I referred to the current Qantas deal and said can Virgin better this?

They did, earlier this year when they offered SCs on ALL reward seats for 6 months, not just discount economy.

This is more QF copying something VA did but it not being nearly as lucrative.

The Qantas strategy is most likely a sign of increased yield, so trying to utilise more seat availability and reduce liability on their balance sheet, by reducing points.

A week ago, Alan Joyce said that yields are expected to fall and that QF would likely lose money this year.

They already did.

Why is QF only offering SCs on discount Y when VA did it on all classes?

Sorry increased capacity it should read. This will boost yield, not really increase revenue, though they will get some out of surcharges however it will reduce liability on the balance sheet due to reduction of outstanding points.

How has Virgin already bettered the current Qantas deal, we are not talking about past promotions.

Why is QF only offering SCs on discount Y when VA did it on all classes? I reckon they have increased domestic capacity, and as fruitcake posted about Joyce saying yields are expected to fall and QF would likely loose money this year, this promo is a way to not lose as much money.

Virgin should offer points redemption and or SC's on Tiger to stop losing money!

They already did.

Personally, I think you're looking at it the wrong way. Qantas copied a previous offer from Virgin, and worsened it. There's no reason VA would 'better' a deal that is really just a copy of something they had previously, only worse?

One initiated, the other copied. QF did a 'oh look we can do that too!' not a 'Here VA, try and better this!'

IMHO, VA will not be forthcoming with anything to compete with this. Just my 2c.

They've already done bettered it, there is no reason for them to beat a promo they've already smashed by a million miles. This is qantas playing catch up not VA.

You can always unsubscribe from the other thread.

You could always edit your previous post as well.

What I mean by "Quite easily" is that VA only need to offer the SC's for premium cabins to beat this one by qantas.

I guess the main issue is that the points cost of a Business Classic award is 2 times that of an Economy Classic and First is three times. SC earn on a Revenue/ASA booking in Business is four times that of Discount economy and First six times. For an AFFer that is a significant difference.

That difference, in the context of this thread, could be something for VA to exploit.

Re: Status Credits on reward seats

Just read the email, I only use points for J rewards so no incentive for me.

+1 to VMC73's comment. Still, there will be others that will like the (want to maximise number of flights with low points balance). For me the only possible use would be if there were similarly timed flights to my destination and I couldn't buy (or use points) for the QF flight AND J seats weren't available on VA. Not seen that happen yet!
