I notice that there is a 767 flying direct Adl to Hba on Mon Jan 27th (QF1221), and then onto Sydney later the same day (as QF1222). It appears to be a once off. Anyone know why this plane is flying this route? I don't think 767's have ever flown regularly to Hba.

I'm going to have a crack here and say that this flight coincides with the cricket schedule for the summer. England play Australia (5th ODI) in ADL on the 26th; and the first T20 match begins in HBA on the 29th.

Probobly cricket related. Aust day in ADL followed by matches in HBA. QF is the carrier of the ACB locally. Beware plane with cricketers+ WAGS. But nice way back from Tasi to SYD at the end of Aust day long weekend

Qantas often schedule 767s into HBA or other destinations to take the Australian cricket team and their entourage from match to match. Last year there were several 767s into and out of HBA when the cricket was on down there and there was a 767 flight from PER to CBR after the WACA game and before the game at Manuka.

The 2 MEL-HBA-MEL flights on 30/1 have also been upgraded to 767s and there is an additional QLink return flight.

Thanks for the replies and info. Lots of cheap seats and was I able to get x2 confirmed upgrades as a bonus! Hmmm - which players will be in J, or maybe just the officials?

Not sure exactly, butI once had an NRL team on my flight and the players and most of the officials were in Y but the coach and his wife were in J. Perhaps with cricket the captain might get J but I don't know.

There's traditionally an Australia Day ODI in Adelaide so would say its cricket related.

I've found a few more flights which have been upgraded to 767s over summer due to the cricket:
Dec 10:
QF587 ADL-PER 767
QF585 ADL-PER 767
QF581 SYD-ADL-PER 332 (normally SYD-PER direct)
QF584 PER-ADL 767 (positioning back to ADL)

Jan 25:
QF592 PER-ADL 767

Yes it's pretty much the most exciting thing that happens to HBA all year - all the QF upsizing that happens around this time with the bigger birds!

Love watching the 763 do a tight Ubolt on the HBA runway! Even better is being on one - feels like you are on a show ground ride ;) ;)

One time a funny QF pilot on a 763 flight to HBA came on the intercom and told everyone to 'hold on for the HBA roller coaster' lol was pretty funny.
