Hello fellow travellers.

Heading to the US in a week or so on the following flights, can anyone enlighten me as to what IFE is available and if there is a USB input for our own media and as to what format the "media" needs to be in.

Travelling economy

Thanks in advance.

A380s and refurbished 747s (which are normally on the 107/108 legs) have a new Panasonic IFE which is very good and has a great selection.

The older 747s have a smaller selection and a much smaller screen.

I don't believe that the QF USB inputs work for any media (apart from maybe photos), it is there as a power source only.

I was recently in a QF A380 in F, and tested out a USB device in their system. There's an option in the IFE menus to select one's own media, so then inserted it, which held a selection of MP3 and JPG files. The results were disappointing. Of the MP3 files, most were listed twice on the screen and when selected to play each started with a lot of static for 30 secs. I then tried to display the JPGs, but none would display. There is a note on the IFE that some large photos will not display, and give that all of mine were 5-10 MB each none would display.

As to what file formats are supported, the IFE doesn't list any.

My usual plan for long-haul travel is to load my iPad up with a good selection of movies, for I've always been disappointed in the resolution of the IFEs.
