Yep, is UA 840. 2 blown tyres on takeoff. 34 L closed until further notice.I just heard on Channel 9 news that a United Airlines aircraft blew tyres on takeoff this afternoon & was dumping fuel & returning the SYD. I assume that is what you are seeing.
Lots of reasons for that many fire vehicles to attend. The aircraft would still have some serious heat in the damaged undercarriage from dragging them back to the gate. Possible underwing/fuel tank damage may have occurred. Routinely, brake temps increase along with the risk of fire once the aircraft stops at the gate.Don't know why you would need 6 fire trucks once it has landed all ok and is being towed to the terminal.
Yeh definitely Untied. It has now turned in to the gate. Don't know why you would need 6 fire trucks once it has landed all ok and is being towed to the terminal.

If the problem was only tyres, why didn't it continue to its destination? Presumably the emergency services at LAX are up to par?
