ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Does anyone have any experience with the ANZ Business One card? I'm getting some pressure here to do corporate cards
Two questions:
1.Is it the optimum for Business reward earn ($150 fee, 1 point per dollar, redemption 2 for 1 on QFF, SQ and Velocity)

2. Has anyone gotten points for ATO spend on this card - the Ts and Cs (relevant part reproduced below) are a bit vague, mentioning Government charges, but not specifically the ATO spend.
Thanks,
Peter

You will not earn Reward Points on interest

charges; government charges; bank fees; cash
advances (as defined in the ANZ Commercial
Cards Terms and Conditions), cash equivalent
transactions, balance transfers and Billing
Account adjustments resulting from disputed
transactions.

I use my ANZ Business One Visa to pay ATO and pick up the points. Just put money into the card first.

You are right Danger - just spent a while trawling their website. Card doesn't even come close to the Westpac card, which I think I'll keep using in a "personal" sense..........
Thanks again,
Peter

There is little doubt that there are some pretty useless credit cards for paying the ATO.
We just have to stay flexible and not get suckered too much.
ANZ went from being a number one credit card to the cutting room floor. Direct Amex cards finally became useless on July 21st this year....where are those scissors??

Does anybody know if a Macquarie Visa Platinum works with ATO? They have an introductory rate on the card that pays 5ppd on utilities, limited to a $10K spend. Normally it is 1ppd transferring to Qantas, so same as EDR but with a higher annual cost.

Also, does anyone know if it pays points on BPay as I need to find a card that does for when Credit cards are not accepted.

ATO, yes

It's a sad day today guys.....yep I received an ATO letter: YOU CAN STOP PAYING YOUR PAYG INSTALLMENT ;)

Least of have other accounts to point too(get it) heee heee heee

Any experience on hsbc qantas platinum card?

I'm looking at applying for a new card soon, and they've got a pretty good deal going on this one as of now. Not keen on card with higher than $200 fee though.

I recently applied for one of these. $199 fee. Online process, instant approval, very easy.
Already an HSBC customer so that may have helped.

I find it amusing that HSBC give you 2 lounge passes per year as a bonus but the Qants Cr Union does not.
Thought it would have been the other way around.
Will end up cancelling my Qantas Credit Union card once the bonus 50,000 points have come through.

I have to admit I had mixed feelings about using 3 different Visa and MasterCards to pay a tax bill with the new fee of 0.42%. It is a bargain but you are left with that feeling that maybe more points at a higher cost on Amex still makes a lot of sense.

Agreed, but what I don't understand is why the ATO, which must have far greater "buying power" still charges more than the NSW Office of State Revenue (0.4% on MC or VISA, no AMEX option). Almost makes me wish I had more payroll tax than we do.

Payroll taxes and land taxes seem to come around so often. I wish all 5 States had credit card payment systems in place. Then of course there are ASIC fees for registrations ,renewals and searches. Shire rates just seem to be quite out of control compared to the CPI but yes they get carded as well.
My ATO payments are not going down any time soon and now that I run my SMSF I get tax bills for that entity as well.

How when generally Amex is on 1.5:1 ?

It is still a higher cost per point with Amex; 1c/pt vs 0.5c/pt. (approx) Cove's comment is valid; I guess it boils down to whether you want lots of points or a bargain. Personally I still get good value from my points at 1c/pt.

Personally I dont think this is the correct calculation.

If for example you have 10K to sepnd
- on Amex you will get 15K points for $145 spend
- if you can find a 1:1 Visa/Mcard you will get 10K for $42 spend

The benefit of the Amex over Visa in example given is 5000 points for $103 which is well above 1c per point. For those Visas which only return .5 points per dollar that statement is however true and for some tax deductability will also come into play.

Land Tax payments by credit card

Hello Brains Trust

With Land Tax payments using non-AMEX cards, would anyone know if Select is still good there or not?

Failing that, would EDR (in small parcels) be acceptable ?

Any positive reports either way to help ?

Many thanks

sure, but if you use 6 digits instead of 5 in terms of payment size, the points differential can equate to a whole flight on SQ (suites)

I'm not arguing against using Amex since I do so myself mainly, I'm just saying be aware this incremental costs is ~2.1c per point if you are paying personal tax or 1.1c if deductable (assuming you can 1:1 on a Visa or M/Card). For me now Visa is down to .42% this is getting toward being marginal. Yes I know you can buy more points this way but there are other ways to buy points. It apparent from coves post he has the same reservations and he's the king of SQ suites.
