I look at it and think;
Can of tomatoes $1
Can of beans $1
500g mince $4
Onion/chilli/garlic $1-2
Mix (seasoning) $2
Total - $10
Prep time - 5 mins
Cook time - 20 mins
Yield ~ 1kg

Id really rather clever stuff that I don't think I could make/complex difficult stuff.

But then, you're not the market for the product. Not sure who actually is, as probably would have been a tiny bit too spicy for the oldies, but I'm not great at cooking and I just had a really easy lunch. Worked this week ;)

I'd probably never make Chilli con Carne however I could make Tacos for several people for about the cost you've mentioned in your post. I don't think I'd pay $5.99 for what appears to be one serve of food.

But probably provides 80% of your daily energy requirements.

What was it like? Good? Enough for a bloke who eats a fair amount? I'm thinking easy night shift dinner for $6.... tried last week's last night and while it was tasty, it was a bit fragile and definately not enough for a meal..

Certainly filling, though despite the generous amount of corn chips I found I needed a few Doritos to finish off the chilli con carne.

Value? I'm not sure. It's definitely got everything you need in the box and packs the flavour. I also got bonus points.

With a Feb 2014 use-by I might stock up.
This does not make sense.

You don't see value in the product and you are going to stock-up? For some bonus points?

I don't think it's priced well, though think that every dish that they promote is going to be this price now so it's an even playing field - but we'll have to see. I'd stock up on it just for the convenience, took it round to the neighbours to replace cheese and dip and it vanished, was well received around the table.

For me it's got value in that sense, not a bad taste and it's getting me 50 bonus points. However as evidenced up thread, not everyone will see the same value there so I left it open.

Picked up a pack of the Chilli Con Carne this morning, interesting they were still trying to sell the crocs and the CCC was down to four packs left.

Couldn't see any crocs at my local store. I guess it does make sense to sell them though, or at least make sure they're not just waste.

I enjoyed the CCC if it was a tad spicy, could not help but think in the air it would make a nice little snack/meal.

Good point, though they'd need to heat up a lot of little tubs of it so it might be too much effort, at least for Y!

Condiments

Diana Browne - Hokoyo, Vegetable Chilli Pickles (origin Zimbabwe)
Stephen Perry - Smoked Chilli Sauce (chilli's and pawpaw, pecans, smoked)
Laura Beaumont - Chilli Lime Strawberry Jam

All dishes this week contain chilli's :)

I really hope the strawberry jam one wins.

They all sound interesting, but have already started thinking about pricing as on the face of it they should be cheaper than the previous 2 weeks.

As for the jam, Laura just lost a third of a batch with her thermometer cracking in the pot. Mmm... mercury :)

Mercury was banned a few years ago I reckon. I used to play with it in my hands - we didn't know the dangers back then. I think the jam or the sauce would be fine, don't fancy the other one.

Again it's turned into a 'too hot' issue. Crazy considering they all contain chilli. I have a feeling both the chilli sauce and pickles will be underwhelming.

When Diana said "Hokoyo is a warning sign because my chilli's are hot", all I thought was but they mustn't be if they made it through. Not sure about the name change either.

I'm half an hour behind. Has the jam gone? I love beerenberg hot chilli sauce and hot tomato sauce but was interested in the jam as a spread.

Sorry, didn't mean to spoil it. I won't say who wins! It's coming up.

But it certainly seems like they don't actually want any heat in the product :( but I look forward to seeing what is acceptable tomorrow.
