The tourism industry expects the new route will attract more Kiwi tourists to SA, as well as giving Adelaide travellers more options.
Between 2pm and 4pm today travellers can book flights at sale fares of $99 one-way, without baggage, for travel between February 12 and April 2 and May 14 and June 25 next year.

Jetstar will fly the Auckland-to-Adelaide route three times a week from December 16.

Jetstar will fly the route three times a week from December 16, operating every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Adelaide will be the airline's fourth trans-tasman destination in addition to services to Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast from Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Jetstar's head of New Zealand, Grant Kerr, said the customer response to trans-tasman flying had been strong over the past few years.

"We know Kiwis love to holiday in Australia and now they can discover or revisit another destination more affordably than in the past."

Fares for Auckland-Adelaide flights will start from $219 one-way online without checked baggage.

Air New Zealand flies daily services to Adelaide from Auckland and special one-way fares start at $250 without bags, according to Air New Zealand's website.

Air New Zealand will also face competition on its Auckland-Perth route over summer from Jetstar's parent company, Qantas.

Jetstar will use an Airbus A320 for the Auckland-Adelaide service, a flight of just under five hours.

While I appreciate there might not be demand for an A330/B787, I'm not particularly enthralled with an A320. Guess it's not much more than flying to ZQN.

I'm somewhat surprised ADL got the nod ahead of BNE but i guess BNE can be served by OOL for JQ pax.

No surprise it's starting over summer. Will be interesting to see if this route remains a goer or if it fades out post-summer.

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

I picked this deal up today on facebook and the booking window was, from memory, 9.30am to 1.30pm. My wife and I made a quick decision, and we are flying to Auckland, return, in May next year, for $198 each, plus $25 per bag each, plus a $17+++ fee for paying with Amex.
And after all that, we got row 1 over and back, at no additional charge.
Feeling pretty happy with it, although we were prepared to be flexible with outgoing and return dates, but we will have 10 days in Kiwiland for a pretty cheap airfare.:)

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

ADL must be a market as Jetstar and Air Asia launching as well.

I think GA have also announces they're starting services?

The EK daily 77W is doing extremely well, with even F loads above 65% within 3 months of operation(!). Rumour has it EK are considering a second daily service via SIN/KUL/BKK and also CZ are apparently considering starting services too.

A few years ago there was a whole 4 international destinations from ADL, now they're popping up everywhere!

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

The fare prices from ADL look good but once you add a flight from another capital city the cost difference is lost.

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

For once, we are in the right city at the right time for a cheap direct flight!

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

Will it be crewed ex-Aus or ex-NZ?

Will the crews do a same day turn around?

Re: Jetstar adds Adelaide - Auckland flights

I might have been interested if the flights had been timed to connect with Air Tahiti Nui to/from PPT.

I would assume ex-NZ and they will do a same day turnaround, both to save costs.

I know some crew used to do an immediate turnaround SYD-DPS which is a much longer day.
