I rest my case hahaha. Boost sugar drinks and fat carb loaded Maccas... Not for me! T3 has its share of heart attack and obesity meals too ;)

Each to their own though of course :)

Compared to Hungry Jacks and NRG (which want 11 dollars for a large smoothie).

Usually when i'm flying its after a big night.

Which is the worst time to be eating / drinking that sort of cough but hey this is so off topic :)

T-9 ish days until T2 is just a memory!

T2 has a better choice of food vendors however.

I love grabbing a boost (for) or mcmuffin (before) a early morning flight

If flying from T3 (i.e. on QF), you will get at least something to eat and drink, if not a meal, on the plane so I don't find the more limited choice of food vendors in T3 a bad thing. :)

I am interested to know what you found so bad about T2. What are your normal flight patterns?

* The shuffle from T2 -> T3 (or T2 -> T3 -> bus to T1) was frustrating. If you fly regional NSW to other capitals it was annoying to have to clear customs again.
* No Domestic J Lounge in T2. Even then, the T3 QP was much nicer than the T2 QP.
* Having to land and catch buses to the baggage claim rather than going to the secure area was frustrating.
* The T2 security lanes are a mess and there was no easy alternative (until I found the lane on the arrivals level down the western end of terminal 2). The side security lanes in T3 are more accessible, and the Priority Security lanes were much appreciated.

All reasons I will be very glad to be flying into and out of T3 on a weekly basis rather than T2 now.

Has or will, anyone be using Qantaslink from T3 today ? It will be interesting to hear how the move has gone ?

Qantas T2 Sydney

I saw a Tweet from Qantas yesterday to say that Qantaslink flights would from today operate from T3 instead of T2 at Sydney. I asked if this means that the QP in T2 is closing to which the answer was yes. (I see it has been updated on the QF website today)
As JQ flights are still going from T2, those with access to the QP will have to leave time to walk from T3 to T2 and go through security.

Did use Qantaslink but noticed hardly any difference in T3. Lounges seemed the same, just a lot more destinations on the boards. Did notice quite a few QF staff in bright red jumpers over in T2 entrances and it looks like all the references to QantasLink at T2 have gone.

Took a photo from the seat this morning - they are also using regular gates as well.

I flew to Armidale this morning connecting from BNE using gate 1C. All seemed to run smoothly but no call for the flight in the lounge, funky new buses with rear entry as opposed to side entry, seating on buses for only a handful (not an issue for me), avoided security at T2 and stress free transfer with minimal time between flights. Only a 5 minute delay waiting for luggage (probably mine).

I can see my flights now being almost exclusively QF as I used to fly Virgin or Jetstar to avoid the terminal shuffle when flying into Sydney and then out with Qantaslink.

Was on one of the last flights from T2 Wednesday, will miss my little Q Club, was sat just over from John Howard on Wednesday as well in the club. Will I be able to use my Q Tags to and from Wagga or just one direction. Will be better for connections but I think I prefer T2. Interestingly, on Tuesdaywe got off in Sydney near Gate 58 and were allowed to walk over and into the building, first time ever we have not been put on a bus. Must have been due to the transition I guess.

My experience is that QFLink have the Q Bag Tag Scanners, they just don't use them at check-in. You can ask for them to use them, but they seem to want to avoid using them. Which is a pain as they don't get Business tags when you are WP and you check in at a QFLink location - the best you can get are Priority Tags (that's all they have).

One for Red Roo - if you check in as a WP for a QFLink flight and you're connecting onto QF mainline, and your bags are checked all the way through, what priority do your bags get if you get them to check in via the Q Bag Tags? Is it designated as "Business" tags or only "Priority" tags?

Also, they had a number of days in the last 8 weeks that they were allowing entry back into T2 - but it wasn't consistent.

Just in T2 waiting for a VA flight. Killing a bit of time ... Seems like the QP is being stripped of FF&E.

What a disaster !!!

I was on QF 2001 from Tamworth - Sydney this morning getting in at 7.25am, after a longer than usual taxi to a remote location of T3 we were off loaded into yet again other bus service to the terminal, A nice new flashy bus with QLink logos and entrances from the side and exit from the front, with driver compartments both front and rear.

again all on board the bus services and off we go, right here stop there give way here and finally reach T3 at 7.42am.

off the bus round the corner under some corrugated iron makeshift entrance and through the door, "WELCOME TO SYD WELCOME TO T3" mmm mmm now 7.47am, 22mins after touch down.

Make my way downstairs to collect luggage, were my very patient driver was waiting for me "7.25 arrival sir I have been watching it said you have landed"

Screen says luggage at carousel # 1 , I wait, I wait some more, we all wait some more, I go looking hoping to find a Q rep well it was the second day of the change over I thought there might have been some extra staff on board to "Assist"

8.05am announcement advises "flight QF2001 baggage now on carousel number 5, so off we all go, me with trusty driver in tow to collect our bags at around 8.10am and out the door to waiting car parked 50meters past valet and off home now 8.20am just shy of an hour to get through.

Great work Q, smooth transition so far .......

on a side note, very quite at 6am in the Tamworth regional lounge, not much more than coffee and yogurt to be had.

Hopefully only teething problems. To me T2 usually meant you avoided those types of delays

If QF are going to "remote stand" all their regional arrivals/departures into SYD T3, then project "home coming" should have been called, project "shoot yourself in the foot". :p

I flew in from ABX on Friday night (16th Aug).

It was running twenty minutes late (though the Friday afternoon Virgin flight was running an hour late according to the screens, so that made me feel a bit better about my delay).

The flight was the first one in a while where the FA did a second round of offering refills (though only to rows 1-4 and 6, for some reason they didn't ask anyone in my row - I hadn't decided whether I wanted one or not, but it felt strange for our row to be the only one in the first six not to be asked).

Arrival seemed to go well, going up to a gate, the seat belt sign went off nearly straight away and the door was soon open. The issue was that we then sat round for five minutes while nothing happened at all outside the plane and then the odd arrangement you can see in the photo several comments up took about five minutes of fiddling to line up (it does enable some rain protection and access direct to the gate but it is a strange narrow walkway for a bit and I do wonder how disabled passengers will handle it - though maybe the narrow slope will more than compensate for not having to go down the stairs we used to need to use).

I've always liked the T2 QP, it tended not to be as crowded as the T3 one and lacked the number of pushy business types who sometimes would cut in front of you. I did console myself that at least the J lounge would be available if I made it to WP again (on the books for next year) and might make up for the change, but now I am moving back to NTL at the start of next year I'll be flying a lot less and so wonder if there is much point (my brain says get a CC with 2 QF passes and that will be sufficient, the part of me that enjoys SC runs etc wants to keep going to LTS still).

I am currently in SYD Business Lounge and hearing all boarding calls for QantasLink flights.

My flight in on QF2001 on Saturday was also arriving on time, but delayed over 20 minutes owing to the new arrangement in T3. I really hope this doesn't slow things down. If it happens again I might leave formal feedback with QANTAS about it.

I'm arriving at T1 on Jetstar, transferring to a Rex flight from T2 3.5 hours later.

Can I just confirm, if I get the train from T1 to T2 and check in with Rex, can I still use the Domestic J Lounge in T3 before my Rex flight from T2 (as a WP arriving on JQ). Is it walkable airside? I saw some comments earlier about walking between the terminals requiring multiple security checks

I'd go straight to T3 first but I have a bag to check.

You should be able to use the T3 business lounge as you'll have a flight on JQ sometime that day (earlier). If you're stopped, be prepared to show evidence that you flew with JQ, as it won't appear on their systems (an itinerary would be sufficient). You can't walk airside, and you wouldn't be eligible to take the QANTAS Domestic Transfer system that puts you into the secure area in T3 as you're flying Rex (they check what your next onward journey is before accepting you for domestic terminal transfer).

If you take the train, you'll have to clear security in T3 to get to the business lounge, then again at T2 for Rex.
