I'm going to take advantage of the Companion Sale to fly J MEL - JFK in January. I also want to request an upgrade to F. I'm flexible with the day I depart so what's the best day for an F upgrade? I was thinking Tuesday or Wednesday or does the F cabin fill up in early January? Does anyone know what the normal loadings are for that period? (flying out early Jan - coming back late Jan)

Note that there's no F between LAX/JFK, and you would need to do QF93 and then change to QF107 if you wanted to do F from MEL to LAX.

I would say the best day to upgrade would be the day there are free seats. Which could be any day.

I would think mid-week Tue/Wed/Thu Aust to the US would give you a better chance but there's less corporate types travelling for work in January so that could work in your favour also.

Out of SYD the best day is Monday since there are less paid for Fs, not sure about MLB.

Thanks everyone, yes, I'd just be upgrading MEL-JFK of course! Might take my chances with the Tuesday.

Doesn't seat guru show seat maps (inaccurately) only?

I just checked Expert Flyer and WON'T be booking on Tuesday 7th! Later in the week is fine so far. Only two seats taken in F on the Wednesday and Thursday.

J is the highest cabin for LAX-JFK. You can only upgrade the MEL-LAX leg.
