Meal selection removed early.

I'd planned to make our meal selection for our Sin - Melb flight tonight but the option to do so has gone. It's 14 hours until our flight. So why the early removal? <grumpy>

i have a friend who is a chef at a sky kitchen... their meals are prepared at least 24 hours in advance and chilled. maybe the same thing?
 
Mmm.. I thought meal requests closed at 24hrs out.

This is in the email sent Thursday:

"If you have a confirmed Qantas issued Business ticket* simply go to Manage Your Booking and then choose Select Your Meal to place your order between 7 days and up to 12 hours prior to departure."

This is part of the new International service so you can eat faster then sleep.
 
I have selected in the 12-24 hour window. Note that the meal options offered for on-line selection are all standard on-board meals from the in-flight menu, so its not like they need to do any extra preparation other than reserving that choice for you when they take on-board orders. Its just a matter of having your order already taken and no need for the flight attendants to ask you on-board. The only time any pre-planning would be required by the catering department is when there are a significant number of pre-orders for one dish that would exceed the standard count of servings for that dish in the regular catering order, and I expect that would only occur under rare circumstances like a group attending the "Lamb Eaters Convention" or similar.

I'm not sure if you've experienced it Pushka, but every time I've eaten in the exact same order as usual service, no quicker. I just get asked to confirm my preference for meals rather than asking what I'd like.
