Why chase status credits?

This issue has been addressed in another thread - see http://www.australianfrequentflyer..../price-status-credits-has-anyone-41326-4.html. In that thread I calculated that it cost me $6248 plus net points cost of 61355 to achieve Qantas platinum.

There are cheaper status runs, but I flew to places I wanted to go at times I wanted to travel (although sometimes taking the long way there).

Ouch, the old JASA run TSV- DRW could see you go from nothing to Plat for just over 100000 Points and around $800 co pay if you had the double offer.

To answer the OP, it's a mix of reasons for me as to why I chase them. Certainly, I don't need to fly anywhere, I could just stay at home. But I have a passion for air travel, so when sales come up I do like to take advantage, I also have a passion for travel and seeing new places. I like to go to the places most others usually avoid, the outback, small towns etc.

Being a member of this site I've met quite a few other members, and this has brought me out of my shell and helped me socialise, though socialising usually happens in a lounge.

Obviously, I'd prefer not to sit in the terminal, travel tends to feel luxurious, even in economy, so lounge access needs to be earned (or bought). Then I can also socialise.

Finally, I may not always travel a lot, but in the future when I'm not travelling so much I'd like to still have lounge access. I could probably buy it at the time, but earning LTG would also be a way forward. Seems like an absurd goal, but would make later life a bit easier when travelling.

Absolutely agree w' this statement, LTS has almost nothing going for it, whereas LTG would be gold.

At current benefits, LTS gives me 50% bonus points on flights, that's not to be dismissed. I've not been, but I hear it also gives me a handy baggage and security benefit on AA in the States. While it seems like nothing compared to Gold, it's a lot over Bronze.

Yes, it's just sour grapes on my part as I don't think I'll ever recover from being WP and all the advantages of that, and falling down to LTS. SCs not much use to me.

For me I am doing my status run this weekend because I was not supposed to get status credits for an overseas trip (discounted staff travel) but I managed to get the points and status credits - lovely surprise.

I am going to enjoy earning more points as a silver member then a red - which will be perfect when I need my redemption of about 300k.

Also - I will enjoy getting discounted entry into the lounge for $300.

That DSC is the stumbling block for many punters, Markis10.

I find it hard to factor in something most would not receive.

Access to the best Y seats. Priority check in and express path through Immigration and Customs. Glass of better wine from PE while seated in Y (as I received LAX-SYD last week).

It is a game, and it is fun.

As an SG are you supposed to have access to better Y seats then NBs ?
I selected seats for my flight to SIN (in Y the brazilian special) coming up in about 2 weeks but the best Y seats I could view was like row 23.

J is rows 1-6 or something like that ?
What happened to the rest ?

I don't expect to be sitting in row 9 but something better than 23 surely ?
Or are 15 rows blocked for WPs lol ?

I thought possibly its because I'm looking to select seats too late (two weeks out) but I'm looking at my flights in Nov and same deal. Best is row 23.

Had to take a JQ bundle to AVV to get the last 10 SCs recently - no love from QF at all.

Once SG, I could see row 13 only.

WP allows me to select the famed row 12.

Now, here's hoping that WP would nab me a points upgrade in my next flight, leaving my row 12 to another lucky SG at T-80.
