It's not that uncommon for airlines to do that.
 
It is fun. But that routing is a short cut.

The long way around is SYD-ICN-MNL-HKG-TPE-HKG-BKK. :shock: Now that was a lot of fun with missed connections and delayed luggage but I would do it again in a heart beat if the opportunity was there.
