That Thai chicken soup would have to rate as about the best lounge offering VA has stumbled across. For me, it beats the LMPPs, the pizzas and the chicken wings and about the only thing that comes close in my estimation (though for different times of day) is the bircher museli they used to do and the pancake/pikelets they still do. I also miss the swiss chesse they use to offer in the salad bar.

Yep. Even tho I haven't had the Thai chicken soup for at least a year.. It was very nice. Except when it is boiling and you burn yourself handling it!

I had the Thai chicken soup a few times in the Canherra VA lounge about a year ago. It was really good and was something to look forward to. Will be in VA lounges today and tomorrow and don't have high hopes on what will be offered.

I brought my friend into the lounge for the first time a few weeks ago. In fact it was his first time in a lounge ever... "Wait, so there's only really sandwiches to eat?". Sigh. Yes.

The Bircher muesli that's in QF business lounge SYD T1 is one of the best I have eaten. In air, that served by SQ.

the worst thing in my opinion is that an airline (any airline) 'attaches' itself to a 'chef/chefs' ...as then the general public will blame/associate that chef to ALL the food served by the airline ... i dont care about a 'brand'... i just wanna eat anything that tastes good .... how 'posh' it is doesnt affect my tastebuds

Today in SYD VA lounge soups were the best. Had both mushroom and a pea soup. Little change on what was on offer from before lunch to 5pm. Only difference I could see were a few cheeses. My friend who is not a regular in airline lounges remarked on the absence of hot food.

The mushroom soup is my second favourite soup, but I haven't seen it for a while. The asparagus soup belongs in the pig trough! (IMHO of course )

Have not tried the asparagus soup but will be wary of it. Just had a Sunday roast at the Avenue in Surfers. Should keep me going until the dreaded offerings at the VA lounge in OOL tonight.

There was a big article in the paper a couple of days ago about Virgin cutting costs, can't for the life of me remember which paper... sure someone will locate it.... Perhaps they have channeled the razor gang towards the lounges

Managers at VA were encouraged to cut costs...I don't believe there was a specific order to look at the passenger experience, but rather just to exercise discretion for any business knick-knacks they put on the expense account, like "team building lunches".

I can't find the article right now, but Googling for it should be straightforward (and it was very recent).

Nice to see those analysts agree with me. Ditch high yield for aggressive "bum in seat" pricing. Fair dinkum, I reckon I missed my calling in life. Excuse me while I go and wait by the phone as I'm sure JB will be calling for advice pretty soon :mrgreen:

If they want to cut costs the first thing they should do is stop paying Luke Mangan. I find it hard to believe that he would want ownership of some of the food being served onboard and available in The Lounge

I took a VS flight from OOL to SYD yesterday. It was on a saver fare but being Gold they put me on an earlier flight. Somehow I was offered the "Flex Meal". A ham and cheese sandwich with his name on it. Tasted like an ordinary sandwich to me. Would not have paid a dollar for it. There were also some nuts. No big deal. Would not buy a Flexi Fare for it.

After Sabre went live fly aheads often led to being booked into a flexi booking class with accompanying meals and status credits...however I'm fairly sure that has generally stopped now.

I was in the ADL lounge yesterday...food was typically grim. As well as the usual cold stuff there was pea and ham soup...and some unidentified meat in a bowl alongside some flatbreads. Later a large strangely shaped block of (Tasty basically) cheese appeared with some grapes and dried apricots. The lounge smelled of toast as usual as most people are relegated to cheese and ham toasties for want of something different!

It was busy in there, there were some delays and cancellations, and the already busy lounge was then overrun by the Brisbane Lions - it was standing room only.

If you wanna go upmarket, and bring in some LM influence, tell customers that it's a deconstructed, Australian twist on a Croque Monsieur

Brisbane lounge on Friday had some great options - enjoyed both the Tom Kha style Thai soup, and the Mexican chilli con carne combo. Unfortunately none of them were suitable for vegetarians though. This isn't applicable to me, but important to note.

Pity Vege versions of these dishes are 2 of my favorite meals!
