SYD-LAX in J

Rang today , they said one or the other , Points or money!!!!

I thought that it was two different processes.

1/ Upgrade with points via the "lottery", OR
2/ "Change" your flight to a confirmed F flight with cash

Or is there a way to "change" your flight to a confirmed F flight with points also ?

hi "QF11 May 7th next, rang today to see if they would do a upgrade with points - pay, all she said was " one or the other" and that was it , but to be fair I am NOT too savvy as what to ask for .

no P on that day,or 3 days either side out of SYD or MEL.....just realized you're on a cash J anyway,sorry,think the 'cheap' trick was only changing from JASA to FASA,if there was P availability...not upgrading cash fare

R well never mind will put in a upgrade at the weekend with points and keep things crossed, I should be GOLD by end of Sept will this get me up the PECKING order, what do you think of the chances???? Thanks all for your advice

I've never flown above J, and never put in an upgrade request - others may be able to comment on the chances re pecking order/SG status etc.
Flying on a wednesday may help your chances though, regarding availability of F,more so than a Fri/Sat flight

IIRC Tuesday is best time to fly for this type of thing.

sorry for my ignorance but what does "P" mean? Ie. No P that day or 3 days either side! Put in my upgrade request so figures crossed.

P is the fare bucket/booking class for awards in First, just like U for Business class awards.
