Check the Velocity points earn website under Air New Zealand for more details.

Points Earn with Airline Partners | Velocity Frequent Flyer

Suppose you're travelling from Cairns to Auckland then Auckland to Los Angeles? The first sector will be a "Trans-Tasman" one, then the second is a "Long Haul".

You'll need to look up the fare class code and match that with the relevant entry in the table to find out how many points you'll earn. The fare class code may appear on your itinerary after the class of service in brackets, e.g. "Economy (L)" means the fare class is L (which earns 0.25 points per mile flown).

You can use Great Circle Mapper to determine how many miles are flown between two ports.

If you can claim points on Velocity that is certainly a better proposition than Airpoints. At least your Velocity points don't expire (as long as you have some activity every 3 years), and they are more versatile to you in Australia than Airpoints Dollars.

I have finally found the codes on their tickets.CNS> AKL=V;AKL>SFO=K,Will they still have to give their Velocity numbers at check-in to be able to claim from Velocity? Thanks for your help.:)Terry.

Yes, at check in make sure their Velocity numbers are entered. To make this easier, make sure to present membership cards.

You can claim points from Velocity retrospectively, but it could be a longer process.

I have claimed Velocity points retrospectively. It didn't take too long for them to award SCs and points.

I flew Singapore Airlines in February return to BOM. Booking had my Velocity number. Only one way was credited. Tried claiming through Virgin website three or four times but absolutely no response, not even an acknowledgement. Was almost persuaded by the SIA experience to fly with them again, particularly given the lack of QF international flights from ADL, but experience with claiming points has put me off.

Hi, not sure which thread to ask but this sort of looked similar. I book via the NZ website and land on VA flights sometimes. I've never really looked into accrediting the VA flights to VA but is it possible? Do I just check in at VA and ask them to credit to VA??

Only reason I ask is I probably could have reached silver last yr which would have allowed me to seat select. I don't think I can do that as NZ Elite?

But if I switch to crediting to VA does that mean I won't get lounge access as I have no status with VA.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The airlines don't like it, but yes, you technically can credit to VA while using your NZ status to gain lounge access. Simply show your VA card at check-in (if it's not already attached to the booking), then show your Airpoints card to gain lounge entry.

As I said, some airlines don't like you doing this but it is not technically against the rules.
