Hi All,

I will fall about 20 SC's short of the 1200 needed to retain WP on current plans - would love some thoughts on whether I need to upgrade an existing MEL-SYD booking to J, or if QF will confirm WP for another year for me anyway?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Dave

There's no guarantee that they will comp you WP. I would change the flight to a J ticket to ensure the SC's.

Note that if you just upgrade the current ticket using points you will still only receive SC's for the original booking class.

I'm actually 25 SC's short of requalifying for WP by July 31, and have booked my first ever status run for Thursday (ADL-SYD return)......

A points upgrade only gets the SCs for the original booking. If it's a fare upgrade then you'll get the J SCs.

While Qantas do sometimes comp a retention at WP level when you're so close it is always better to attain the requisite number of SCs. It is also noted that the comp retention is a once only benefit so it is better to 'save' it for when you're really short.

I would give them a call. While the decision to allow you to maintain the status is a possibility - you cannot guarantee it. However, they often adjust your next years status prior to it expiring - so check your status regularly on your summary page to see if they have given you a free pass.

For only 20 status points, I wouldn't bother trying for a comp I'd just jump on a Syd plane return with Qantas (or Jetstar with plus options purchased) and do a day return trip.

Might be a couple of hundred dollars, but it extends WP status and gold/silver downgrades for an additional year (if you don't qualify next year).

I'm about 40sc off renewing WP, reval date was 31/7/13, just checked online, and the reval date has changed to 31/7/14.. Does this mean it's done and dusted?

I was 10 SCs short - fixed with a JQ bundle (SYD AVV) netting 20 SCs.

I did not ask, nor expect Qantas to help out.

Doubtful if they would do it.

Yep! :D

Seems you have been comped another year.

when does your year end?

If July, then I'd be doing that quick run ...

If later, hang on a bit as they may still comp you another year.

When you're that close I wouldn't risk it.
Anecdotally you only get one free comp, so if that's true I'd be saving mine for a year when I needed it a lot more than only making up 20 SCs.

You definitely can't count on them comping it for you I would suggest.

Agree - anecdotally it would be a better move to pay for 20 SCs this year and save the 'free' comp for a year when you're struggling with 100 SCs short.* Of course depending on your year as serfty said you may be able to hold off.

* Not necessarily saying this is QF's comp threshold - they have their own black magic to deciding whether to give you a freebie from what I've read.
