Hello all,

Have done a quick search but could only find people asking this question regarding Virgin Flights.

We will fly return Premium Economy from LHR to BNE in August.

Normally the 40kg each would be adequate but these flights are to return home for our wedding and we will have wedding stuff to carry.

At time of booking in May I was SG, she was WP, however I was just downgraded to PS and her status reassessment is a few days before our first flight where she is 'due' to be downgraded as well (hopefully a 'soft landing' but not holding our breath).

Does the baggage limit linked to our old status upon booking still apply, or does the new status limit apply?

Also, FWIW, QANTAS told me our points upgrade request will still be linked to the priority of our old status unless we change something, which is what got me thinking about this question.

Thanks for your help

Firstly, congratulations!

I believe baggage is based on the card you have at the time of flying, not booking.

Your partner should get a soft landing to gold too.

Congratulations to you, and soon to be Mrs 5teve! I can personally relate to the challenges of carrying "wedding stuff" overseas. However looking back, it certainly was worth the effort. :)

Baggage allowance will be calculated based on your tier status at the time of travel. To clarify, travelling in Premium Economy as a Silver member you're allowed 52kgs, and as a Gold member 56kgs. In addition to this, you can each carry 2 pieces of cabin baggage at a maximum of 7kgs per item. Should Mrs 5teve be reassessed to Silver, there's only a difference of 4kgs from her checked baggage.

As an option, you may also wish to consider pre-purchasing Additional Baggage. It's cheaper than Excess Baggage charges at check-in and will give you certainty prior to departure. Of course you can assess this closer to the time as you're able to purchase this up to 3hrs before the scheduled departure of your Qantas flight. See this link for more information: Pre Paid Additional Baggage | Qantas

Hope this helps.

Thankyou BrentH and Red Roo for your responses, has put my mind at ease and given some certainty

Have enjoyed the last 3 or so yrs of (her) platinum and have routed flights through Sydney just for the 1st lounge! Would be sad to see it end

Now if only Qantas can note the wedding and honeymoon in the system and be very nice to us with our points upgrade request!... ;)
