Just booked a *Alliance reward ticket SYD-ANC-SYD in F, mostly on United but on US Airways from Anchorage to Phoenix (1:30 AM departure!) on the way back.

As far as I can tell from their 'lounge finder', there appear to be no * Alliance lounges at all at Anchorage. Anyone know if this is right; even with United, US Air and Air Canada servicing the airport?

No AA (oneworld) lounge either.

Alaska Airlines has the only one I am aware of - It can be accessed using PP.

Thanks serfty. That's a Paid Pass? Do you know if airlines like United will guest you into Alaska's lounge? I wouldn't be that worried, except its a 1:30am departure!!

"priority pass" - complimentary memberships can be had with Platinum Amex Credit and Charge cards.

As for late flights I have been there done that (11pm AA red eye to DFW).

Arrived ~7:30pm and took my ti,e had a meal and a few drinks at one of the plentiful eateries there.

Ok, thanks again. While you're there, and suggestions for hotels in Anchorage? I'm resigned to being soaked price-wise.

Can't help much other than agree with being soaked ... It was in June 2006 when the AUD was ⅔ a USD - a $200 Hampton in cost me AUD300 for one night  - rest were HHonors award nights at the Hilton.

Hampton now about US$310 after tax, so abt A$340; not toooo bad escalation in A$ terms .. although last week it would have been better!!

Amazing how ones been sweating over the A$ fall in the last few days. We've had it good for a while!

I was staying in Reno, Nevada for a conference in 2008 when the A$ was in free fall when Lehman Brothers collapsed, ending up at US$0.48 I think. My hotel bill was going up 10% a day for a few days. At day 2 of the free fall, I went to the desk to pay on the spot. They agreed, but oh, boy.

The guys from Iceland (bankers) at the conference were worse off. Most of the Icelandic banks collapsed overnight during the conference and the guys had their credit cards cancelled same night. They were wondering if their air tickets home would be valid. They were, but there wasn't much work-wise to fly home to.

Touch wood!
