I hear it doesn't take much for it to divert to Auckland, Noumea or Nadi.

I imagine not too much fuel would be left by the time it got to BNE in case of weather

Nate

Noticed QF 8 diverted to AKL this morning.

Correct.

I was booked on it BNE - SYD today, got a call at 4pm yesterday telling me I was rebooked on a flight ex Domestic, which means they've known about the diversion for a while.

How often is the BNE-SYD leg of this flight delayed due to delays in the arrival of the DFW-BNE leg?

Seems to happen a fair bit. They really need a 777 for this route or to permanently go via NOU/AKL/NAN.

It seemed to be a couple of times a month in 2012 from the top of my head.

It'd be interesting to check the actual stats!

it happens around twenty times a year, while the LAX flights get 5-10, having a 777 would not make any difference from a diversion perspective, load is a different story.
