Just flew QF568 PER----->SYD and had selected a seat near the back of the J cabin upon booking and got moved to the front row at checkin. Any other flight than a red eye, I wouldn't have minded, but the noise from the galley and also the fact that they kept the curtains open or half open, for most of the flight really anoyed me. I'm now sitting at Sydney on no sleep and about to board another flight. Has anyone ever had their J seat changed at Check-in and can anyone shed some light on why they might have moved me?

It would be nice if they asked me, but just to change it has really rubbed me the wrong way. I am just glad that the service was excellent, except for the curtain being open.

You can always ask if its possible to be moved back to your original choice.

As to reasons, generally operational reasons such as a late minute configuration change etc

Mrs Lime & self on same flight next Mon. she will be livid if that happened. We are however hoping for the international Airbus 300-200 version.

(a) Qantas changes your seat for operational, safety or security reasons (even after boarding the aircraft), and we are unable to seat you in a suitable alternative.
(b) there is a flight disruption causing you to be moved to another flight and Qantas is unable to seat you in a suitable alternative on your new flight
(c) Qantas moves you to a flight not operated by Qantas

16. Seat requests cannot be guaranteed as they may need to be changed for operational, safety or security reasons, even after boarding the aircraft."

In many J flights (as ASAs :)) I've never been moved from my selected seat. I was always alone on those flights. I've been moved a few times in Y when travelling with others, which ruined my plans for window-seat views.

Maybe that's the key - >1 people in bookings and QF will move you for reasons I can't understand.

I've had my seats moved at check-in before. Usually it's an op-up :p

Yes, I had this happen recently on QF 36 SIN-MEL. Not happy. I asked for my originally selected seat; told it was 'not available', with no reason available. I was offered a seat which like the OP, would have been subject to galley noise and light. Was told no other seat available. Stood my ground (politely) and eventually got a seat which was close to original choice. I guess some other poor blighter got moved.

I eyeballed the person who was in 'my' original' seat. Nothing exceptional (I guess CL people don't have it tattooed on their forehead) - but he was obviously well known to the cabin crew.

Being known to the Cabin Crew wouldn't get you the clout to move someone from a seat they had been pre allocated. Nor does being a CL mean you know the Cabin Crew well.

I have had it happen to me too. No aircraft change, pre allocated and confirmed within 24hrs of dept. Just gremlins in the system.

.

Yeah, know that. Just expressing my suspicion that I got bumped by someone higher up the pecking order (as I apparently bumped some-one lower down than me!!).

The only reason I can think of is that they had a last minute double booking and poor old goose gets shunted to the noise and light so 2 people can sleep side my side.

You mention that you requested seats at the time of booking. Did you at any stage change your dates, as this would result in your seat allocation, special meals etc being cancelled?

If this was the case, if you didn't specifically pre-allocate seats for the new flight(s) then only your generic seat request would be in the pnr.

What was the seating for the onward flight from SYD? Was the seat number the same or different from the one you thought you had?

When you checked in & noticed you had row one, did you ask the checkin agent if there were any seats available further back in the J cabin?

If you don't actually pre-allocate seats ahead of time the system will try to allocate you a seat according to the preference in your profile (if one is specified) at the time of checkin, however if it's a full flight it may not always be possible.

Transcon flights are often full in J as a large amount of pax eg FIFO do points upgrades.

If you call QF res they would be able to see in your pnr history any seat numbers you have pre-allocated ahead of time and if/when they were cancelled.

Only staff with access to the Altea checkin system would be able to view any changes made at the airport - not sure whether res supervisors would have Altea access themselves so they may need to call the airport to find out.

I got moved again recently on PER-BNE flight on a 767. I had chosen 23J and was moved to 24F.

Yes I know no great difference between those 2 seats but that is not the point. I was told the bassinet was required. Boarded to find 2 men sitting there in 23JK and did not appear to have any status with 23AB vacant. No infant anywhere in sight on whole aircraft and it was only lightly loaded flight anyway.

Would love to know why I was moved and who moved me.

Yes it was a changed flight, but I immediately selected my seat 3 weeks out. On check in, there was a problem and they couldn't give me a boarding pass until about an hour later. Enter 1F

That sounds a bit odd. Maybe you'd been booked but the eticket hadn't been issued. In most cases the ticket counter can issue etickets unless it was an award ticket in which case they'd need to call SYD to make sure the points were deducted correctly.

I remember I had a JASA booking that had been changed & although it would display the seat map, after I selected the seat I wanted it wouldn't save my selection.

I called res who deleted the generic window seat request in the pnr for that flight & I was then able to select & save my actual seat number.

I now double check & go back into my reservation via the MMB portal to make sure the seat number appears next to the flight.
