Virgin lifts on-time record, but still trails Qantas

VIRGIN Australia's horror stretch of punctuality problems may have drawn to a close, with on-time performance in April back above 80 per cent -- but still trailing Qantas.

Qantas remained a clear leader in both on-time departures (86.3 per cent) and arrivals (85 per cent).

"According to the official data released in 2013, 84 per cent of Qantas Domestic flights have departed on-time, while Virgin Australia has managed only 74 per cent," Mr Strambi said.
"This means one in every four Virgin flights has been late this year, which equates to around 2900 more late Virgin flights than Qantas in three months."

For some reason my flights with virgin that are delayed would be more like 2/3 not 1/4. Good to hear they're getting their **** together.

Virgin still constantly fiddle with flight times and cancel flights months in advance, which are not reflected in these figures.

My 4 flights booked for this year, all had schedule changes of around 50 mins, so I just cancelled the flights and booked on Qantas

I am proud to say I will be flying a total of ZERO Virgin flights this year :)

Seriously are you Olivia Wirth or Alan Joyce?

I have a 0% on time record with tiger, but that's from a sample size of 2. :p

Interesting enough, I've taken scores of QF flights in recent years, and only 2 flights were late. I was moved to another flight once, and for the other flight, I had a long connection time at the destination so it didn't matter. It's getting to the point now that, every time I fly on QF, I would be thinking that my luck will run out one day. (Not that I expect QF to be late, but I don't believe any airlines can operate with such reliability).

It will be interesting to see how OTP goes in school hols when there are only 4 F/A's on a 738.

With the high number of UM's travelling the F/A will have to wait for all other pax to board before checking & signing UM paperwork which can take time.

Currently what hapoens is one F/A will continue to board the remaining pax while the other one attends to the paperwork which assists with an on-time departure.

Traditionally QF does well in Q3 and Q4 for the financial year were traffic is soft, with Virgin doing well in the busy part of the year if you look over the historical trend data. At the end of the day it all comes down to circumstances of the flight and the destination pairings.

2/2 in the last week were early for us (coast to coast)!

Has anyone looked to see if the schedules have been padded to improve otp? Also wonder that with the new product etc the turn arounds may have dipped when introduced and now the "teething issues" are settling.
