Just flew from SYD/KUL on MH for first time.

Flew on A333 and used "Book the cook menu" which was reasonable

Standard offerings that +1 had were just average in J class.

Waiting now to do MH A388 to CDG in F Class so have booked the Lobster Thermidor and Linguini Scollaps for each of us.

hopefully a good choice?

Had to pull out the Qantas Platinum cards to get into the Platinum lounge here despite having F boarding class cards??

Not sure why this was needed, thought if in F class you would get in but aparently not!

Very limited wine list, 2 reds 2 whites and just 3-4 dishes on the menu

Internet at dial up speed so switched to public airport wif fi which is way better

Looking forward to test their A388 F Class

KUL is quite a small Asian hub though

Thanks. Am going to do a bit of a lounge crawl next week, including KUL.

Looking at the MH web site, I thought the Platinum Lounge / Suite was restricted to MH's Enrich top tier members only MH Lounges with the First Lounge available to F travellers and1W Emeralds.

the Platinum Suite is reserved for the highest tier of our frequent flyer programme.

The 1W lounge access site also only brings up the Golden Lounge, not the Platium suite.

I wonder if you lucked-in getting access or can you say that its a definite 1W Emerald benefit?

KUL is actually quite big, your in a small part which is the satellite terminal, there is the main terminal and also the budget terminal where it all happens thanks to Air Asia, and soon its all doubled when KLIA2 opens.

It is a platinum suite not a first class suite. It is for platinum status passengers, I even surprised they let a QF platinum I thought they were restricting to MH platinums only. There is a first class lounge for first class passengers.

As far as wifi goes usually it is the opposite. The lounge wifi is good for fast downloads while the free airport wifi barely works (especially at peak times). Did you enquire at the desk about the wifi speed?

On passenger numbers it is 27th busiest airport in the world, 9th in Asia. A little bit smaller than Singapore or Bangkok, but still in the same ballpark. Although fair amount of that traffic these days would be going through the low cost terminal. But have having said that it is not as busy as the airport authorities would like, they still have a bit of spare capacity.

There are in fact three MH lounges when you are at KUL Satellite C Golden Lounge.

Looking at the map below

The blue box at the left of the map is the front desk. Turning left is the main area of the lounge:

Turning to the right is the Platinum lounge, which OWE have access to

And just to the right hand side of that ramp and stairs is a tiny little MH Enrich Platinum lounge, which is quite discretely labelled "Retreat Room" on the top map, and is only available to MH Enrich Platinum members.

Ah, that's great SeatBackForward, thanks. I wonder if the area that's labelled "Platinum Lounge" is what their web site calls the "First Class Lounge"? Certainly the web site says that the "Platinum Lounge" is for Enrich Platinum members, which would correspond to the "Retreat" on the map / your description.

Travelling J on MH to BNE on Friday, so I assume I turn left into the main lounge.

You can always sneek into the Plat lounge via the business centre, I dont think its worth it.

I will have a peek only, it's a morning flight so not looking for top shelf booze...just a quiet comfortable spot

The lobster thermidor is one of the nicest meals I've ever had in the air. Definitely a good choice, especially when you have it with Dom Perignon. I really enjoyed MH First and I really like the seat design and I love the built in closet.

That is interesting they use to be business lounge, first class lounge and platinum suite. On their website they are still referred to as such.
Golden Lounge

Looks like they have renamed the first class lounge as the platinum lounge. And what was the platinum suite is now the retreat room. I wonder if it was because of OWE trying to get access to the platinum suite.

The platinum suite is really nothing special. It's essentially an extension of the First class lounge, kind of like a quiet room. It was specifically meant for Enrich platinum members prior to MH joining OW. Now, it is more a way for them to extend the First class lounge if they need the space or providing space for Enrich platinum members if the First class section is kind of full. However, it never hurts to ask the staff in the lounge if you can use the suite. It is not specifically stated as a benefit of being OWE but I don't see why you can't use it but it really is at the discretion of the staff there.

Yes, that's right. Only first class passengers or OWE members can use the First class side of the lounge.

Oh, fair go! I've got Emirates F and SQ F to go through next (redemptions, I regret to add). I'm one who would like to visit Dubai again to have a sticky-beak, but not overly keen on it as a regular stop-over, even if it avoids LHR. MH will nicely - it seems - replace QF on the Europe-via-Asia strategy when I'm not on *A.

I got refused access as an OWE (QF Plat) to the Platinum suite last month, and even had to argue my way into the underwhelming First Class lounge:shock:

Only MH Enrich get access to the MH Platinum lounge (right turn at the desk, then right turn before the stairs)
OWE get the F lounge (right turn at the desk, then up the stairs)
That seems to be the case... I tried arguing that OWE was the same level as MH Enrich Plat but didn't get very far with that argument....

Interesting also that KUL was designed with two satellite terminals in mind - see the grass square in front of the current + shaped satellite terminal.
Instead they decided to build KLIA2...

KLIA2 has been crazily over budget and from some shots facilities won't be far off a regular terminal... yet the Chairman of AirAsia has said he doesn't want to pay anymore than what is paid at present in the budget terminal...
I suspect we will here more of this as the terminal opens.

It could seriously increase AirAsia's costs, or if charges at klia2 are kept low then I would not be surprised if some full service airlines shift as well.
