Hi this might seem like an easy question but I was not sure where to post it.

A family member is flying QF to the USA soon, booked in Y through a travel agent (discounted ticket). I am thinking of surprising her by using $ to pay for the difference to W, or if a decent sale comes up, J as a birthday gift. Has anyone had any experience calling QF and doing this? Is it easy or difficult to achieve?

Thanks in advance

I think it's bit hard if you Don't have the PNR info handy. If they are new to travelling you might be able to get the info from then without rousing suspicion

I have had experience where the airline will only deal with the reservation source regardless of wether or not you are the pax

My experience is QF, wont talk to you only the passenger. You will have to go back to the TA as its their booking and ask for their assistance.

I booked a QFi flight through a third party website.. Then called up to enquire about changes.. The info I was given is that if you want them to split the passengers then they will unlock it and allow you to make changes directly with the service desk bypassing the TA... (November 2012)

So if you have the booking ref.. It might be worth calling up and talking to them about what options you have. But I think you will have to go to the TA for this one.. :(

What a lovely thought. As this booking was made through a travel agent, you will need to contact them directly to make any changes prior to departure. The only exception would be if you were looking to use your Frequent Flyer points for the upgrade, in which case only Qantas can assist. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks so much for the reply Red Roo! I will see what options are available to me and hope I can find my way around it.
