Hi everyone

I'm booked on the upper deck in economy on the new config A380. I've checkout out the plane maps, but cannot see the 'S' to indicate the self serve snack bar as with the 747's.

Have Qantas completely done away with these on the new config A380?

The nearest snackbar is downstairs at the rear if your talking Y.

What do you mean? there is an instant snack bar on demand service with a button in your IFE controller ;-)
Or just wander to the galley at the rear of the cabin (very close by for upper deck Y cabin) and ask for whatever you want. They have all the same stuff as the self-service snack bars plus more (such as alcoholic beverages ;)).

Ah ha! Well I don't like to bother the FA's too much no long flights that's all :) But yes, the alcohol is a good enough reason to go and ask.

The last time I flew the new config A380 upper deck whY, the 'kiddy barrier' was across the stairs down to economy. Guess they didn't want the hoi polloi mixing with the upper deck whY elites ;)

Thats there for safety reasons apparently re the galley, the crew have no issues with traffic up or down, just use the country rule "leave the gate in the state you found it".

As always, safety first. :)

In my experience, its rarely a bother for them and they often quite like the brief chat that comes with a simple request for a snack or drink.

I heard otherwise from a number of FAs and even had 2 different CSS's tell me that QF don't really like pax opening that gate by themselves. I suspect it's largely because a lot of pax don't ensure both latches are in place and they do not want a recurrence of the issue that occurred a while back with a cart falling down the rear stairs.

Last flight to USA, I wanted to visit someone downstairs and FA were very casual....." Sure, just through the gate and downstairs"
However, on return flight I did the same thing, and got totally chewed out by the FA about the safety issue.....and I mean really told in no uncertain terms that I should not have navigated the gate on my own!!

quite embarrassing

TQ

Oh the horror, mixing with the unwashed in Y...

Two choices, forego the snacks and stick to champagne, or bring dettol for your interactions with the unwashed.

On the topic of upper deck Y on the A380.. they do not do the marshmellow/hot chocolate run upstairs at all but they do downstairs? Has been the case on pretty much all my upper deck Y A380 flights.

WHAT?????? Oh NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I was looking forward my trips in the new Emerald City (Y edition), but I may have to change all my forward bookings on the upstairs Y if there's no hot chocolate!!!!!! (BTW wasn't there a thread last year lamenting lack of hot chocolate???).

I wouldn't move seats just for that. Just ask them I'm sure they will go downstairs to get you one...

Last couple of times I tried to use the snack bar (admittedly in J), I was told "tell us what you want and we'll bring it to you". I got the impression that they liked having something to do on long overnight flights.

I have often heard it called "cattle class" but didn't know there was a gate to keep them in their place!
