Found a Reward J SYD-CBR-BRI and the information shows option of either 21300 points or 13800 + $59.47 taxes. I want to take the 2nd option but when I select my flights the points showing that are required (on right hand side of booking page) reflects the 1st option of points only.

Where / at what stage of the booking process do I get to state that I want the 13800 points + pay $59.47 option.

I selected the flights and pressed 'continue' to the next page where I have to enter passenger details but the points + pay option has not appeared yet.
At what stage do I get to say I want points + pay.

any help before I proceed (and stuff up the booking) would be greatly appreciated.

This can be a little confusing but yes, when you get to the payment page, there will be a slider which shows the points plus pay amount on the left, and the full points amount on the right, and you can drag the indicator between the too depending on how much you want to pay in cash and reduce the points required.

Yes that is how you do it and yes it is confusing until you know it. I got caught out a few weeks back using more points that I wanted to.

Another thing though with the point plus pay option is you get stung with the ridiculous Mastercard CC Surchage, WHERE IS THE POLI OPTION???? The taxes on the flights I wanted to pay and reduce the number of points required by 8,000 are $64.32 however the only option to pay them is with a CC and the fees are nearly a quarter of the taxes. What a RORT. Wonder if this will change on Monday if paying by Visa?

Has anyone found anything besides the SYD-CBR_BNE option?!?!?!? it doesnt suit me in the slightest, but dont think i have any other option!! I could make it work if i could have a long layover in CBR (we're talking a whole day... even overnight..) what do you think my chances are of requesting that, in the VA gold call centre?

I think you have to fly by then. The wording at the website says: "Simply redeem your Points for a Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight and travel between 13 January and 30 June 2013 to take advantage of this exclusive offer." (my bolding).
