I guess it is part of the teething problems similar to the engine and wing crack issues the 380 had...

And of course the teething problems the 747 had! (And perhaps every new model airliner!)

Don't forget the inaugural 747 long haul was flown by a last minute replacement aircraft!

I am booked on NH from NRT-SEA mid June and I really hope it will be the 787 it was meant to be...

Well Boeing has had a number of weeks to work on all the niggles while the battery pack was changed. Most aircraft builders don't get this opportunity.

ANA is saying that Dreamliners are safe to fly now..

A MODIFIED Dreamliner took to the skies over Tokyo with top Boeing and ANA executives aboard, as the planemaker and its leading client sought to reassure passengers the jetliners are safe.

It was the first flight by one of All Nippon Airways' 787s since the worldwide fleet of the next-generation planes was grounded over safety concerns due to faulty batteries sparking fires on board two planes.
The test flight by ANA, which has the largest fleet of Dreamliners, came a day after Ethiopian Airlines became the first carrier to resume flying the 787s.
After a two-hour test flight from Tokyo's Haneda airport, ANA chairman Shinichiro Ito and Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner descended the stairs of the Dreamliner.
"After three months it's a terrific feeling to have an ANA 787 back in the air, and I am very pleased to say that it was a perfect flight on a perfect day," Mr Conner told reporters.
"As is evident by the fact that we are here today, we are very confident in the solution that we developed...and I can tell you that we put our family on this airplane on any day of a week, and any time."

I personally will wait another 3-4 months, flying regular schedules without problems is more convincing then any lab tests....

Unfortunately I am not that enthusiastic about the fix, but I hope for Boeing the fix just works!

Li-ion batteries being what they are....

I think Airbus were looking at the same batteries and promoting it as well, that is until Boeing had problems and Airbus have kept it zipped ever since.

While the fix might be fine, I would still avoid the 787 for now. For the time being, I would imagine that older types such as the A330 or the 777 would be more reliable, and less likely to be delayed/cancelled due to technical issues.

While the battery issue... happened, at least it wasn't in the air. I'd probably be more likely to accept a short domestic flight on it than long haul for the time being, but think this should be behind them now.

The airbus batteries were smaller. In any case they have decided to go back to Ni-Cad.
