Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

Not looking forward to a flight home in Y. Still it will give him time to brush up his resume and consider what transferable skills he has to put towards his new career.

Who is to say the pilot is at fault, its possible he was on NIGS and someone parked the aerobridge not in its normal spot, or moved to soon. I am not sure they could even see that damage area from the coughpit.

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

Did anyone read the herald sun article?

Monash University Professor Michael Asten saw the incident unfold from his seat and said passengers were left stranded on the plane for 50 minutes with little information coming through.
"The plane landed and it continued to roll at a slow speed for a few seconds and then crashed into the jet way," he told the Herald Sun today.

Sounds like a quick taxi!

I hate it when you hit the erobridge stairs on the runway! People are so careless with FOD these days.

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

No, sir, I did NOT hit the airbridge! It was a flock of VERY low flying (and off-course) Canada geese - ran into the wing and the bridge, I swear! Not quite 'Miracle on the Hudson' but those geese are big - y'know?

Could be done in TSV, I've seen Dash 8s landing on runway 07 roll off the end of the runway, onto the apron and slide into a parking bay in one smooth movement.

Jetways aren't much of a danger in Dash 8 parking bays though.

This is Australia, it was a kangaroo chasing a drop bear. Fair dinkum, boss, they'd gotten into the Vegemite and went berserk!

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

Aircraft was under NIGS. The aero bridge is a fixed rail bridge and the aircraft was well over the stop bar as the aircraft line is for L1 offload.

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

Will this be repairable on site? Or contract to AVV?

Or do we think UA will do a temporary repair at Mel/AVV and ferry it back to SFO (as EK did with their A340 back to dxb)?

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

Lucky it didn't make contact with an engine.

Wonder what the excess is on the comprehensive insurance for a 747 is ???

Re: United Planes crashes into aerobridge at MEL

I was very surprised to this plane when taxiing to the terminal tonight.

I was booked on this flight SYD-LAX and I noted it was cancelled whilst on my way to the airport. Still made it to LAX on time as bumped to QF. Unfortunately only in Y. When UA bumps passengers only rebooks original class (although at least has credited as Y) on upgraded flights. The one time QF bumped me it was in the upgraded class to EK

Change from UA to QF sounds like an OP-UP to me.

except Fiji Airlines or China Southern, actually via Asia there are a number I wouldn't step on.

I'd still rather the Air Pacific 747 over United Airlines! Feels like the 90's instead of the 80's

China Southern A330's are fine as are the new Air Pacific A330s :)
