Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yeah I'm in a tough spot.
No points to play with, not much hope of a credit card approval.
i will be doing about 25 short run work trips during the year so getting to gold would help. Work flights all disc economy so not likely to hit gold without a boost.

Are the dsc offers just sent via email or do I need to look out elsewhere?
my only hope may be to shell out $$ on a domestic j fare when the dsc offer is on in hope of grabbing a few extra credits which may get me to the 700 required for gold this year.

In addition to what TheEmu2012 said, also go find the Double Status Credit thread and hunt through there. Red Roo posted a link to the registration landing page for DSCs. It's worth putting your number in and checking. The worst that can happen is it tells you you're not eligible this time.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Based out of BNE, need 400 SCs (=200 since I've gotten the DSC offer). Need to be done by end of June. There's a couple of BNE-KTA options, but I'm looking for something with a smaller time (and, ideally, money+points) investment since I don't need so many SCs as BNE-KTA delivers.

Can anyone direct me to this link?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm looking at booking a JASA SC run for a certain date, although I'm still 2000 points short.
I'm worried that the JASA wont be available much longer. If I purchase the equivalent full price J fare, then refund it once I have sufficient points, should this make the seat available again to be booked as a JASA?

when is the monthly cycle date on your Credit Card ??

If close just spend the extra $ 2 k on something you are going to pay....tax....rates.... If then in credit ring them and ask for a refund after the points post. it all works out in the wash if they claw back but at least you will have your points now

You may be able to purchase the extra points required.

[h=1]Purchase Top-up points[/h]
[h=2]Question[/h] Can I purchase Frequent Flyer points to be used towards an Award? [h=2]Answer[/h] Yes, if you are just a little short of the points required for an Award, you can purchase Top-up points by calling the Frequent Flyer Service Centre.

Please ensure you have your membership details available when calling.

I reckon you'll have to pay the assisted booking fee but that is up to you to decide if it is worth it for your situation.

Thanks for the link @markis10

I realise to go on a status run I need points to play with (pity I can't trade the 20,000 velocity points I accumulated last few months)
I have little chance of getting bonus points from a new credit card application (lets just say some previous cc trouble)
I have tried to work through a number of viable alternatives - - be very grateful for guidance:

Would something like this be my best chance at getting a chunk of SC and starting my points rolling:
MEL - AKL (J) for $995 ?

On a similar note, is the 20,000 points you can purchase every 12 months (expensive I know) a practical way of me getting some points as a base to start a SC Run?

Many thanks

I believe the points you can buy are only available when you have a flight etc. that you are short on points and only up to 15% of the total required.

Are you a wine drinker?
Qantas Epiqure can be a good way of earning points.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks to double SC offer and all the excellent information on AFF - just booked OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA by a JASA for 48,000 and $320 - hitting a loyalty bonus so an extra 8,000QFF points and the points for the flight brings it down even more - using the SC calculator on Qantas it equals 240 x 2 = 480. 1 night in an airport hotel in Hobart. Then only short 70 credits and have until February to acquire them. Gold for the first time is exciting.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I may do one of these with Mrscove as she has a double status credit offer that could work in May/June.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hello Cairns,Darwin and Alice it is time for a re-visit seeing Mrscove has a DSC. Arm twisting could get her to Hobart. P1 status might be possible with JASAs.

Lucky, Mrscove getting a DSC offer! Hubby got one as well, and we have been trying to see how he can best use it before end of June. First time for him with DSC.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Is he ready for a bigger status run? The top end of Australia is lovely in June and Darwin is booming compared with Hobart and Melbourne.

Yes, he need to get as many SC as he can while we are in OZ - constraint by time! I will have to do more research for him.

And DRW is getting a Hilton brand or two, so a MR to add to the fun!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm looking to book a status run Syd-Bne-Tsv but not sure if the short time frame on connections is OK for the turn around (40 mins), I'd be more comfortable knowing if it's the same plane.

Does anyone know if the folllowing flights use the same plane?
1) QF972 Bne-Tsv 11.50 to 13.50 and Tsv-Bne QF973 14.30 - 16.15
2) QF970 Bne-Tsv 8.55 - 10.55 and Tsv-Bne QF971 11.35 - 13.20

It will be the same plane and crew. Just enough time to grab a drink at the QP and then get right back on...

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,

Anyone with tips for a good Asia status run? I note the TPE suggestion. Any others out of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand or Cambodia??

Thanks in advance!

ok my situation has improved slightly.
looks like I have 30,000.points to play with,
does this seem like enough to go on a mini status run?
Any suggestions. Home port is Melb

Yes, luckily it's not very far from any of the gates to the QP and back… :)
