Was not able to check-in online (error message on QF) both on my in-bound LAX and outbound JFK QF108 flights last month. Called QF at the time and they weren't able to explain why (even after re-entering my ESTA details). I thought it could be because my ESTA details is registered on a non-Australian passport but even after I suggested that they couldn't tell me if it was the problem.

Has anyone else come across this? Annoying since I couldn't select my seat until I get to the airport to check-in, so I'd like to figure out what the problem was so it doesn't happen again. The flight was booked directly on the QF website.

Did the error message give you any info as to why you could not OLCI?

Had you entered all the other info like address at destination in the US & basically whatever else it tells you in the confirmation emails you receive from QF when you book?

I just tried to check my seating 18 hours before departure, and was unable to get to the page - obviously bugs somewhere.

Pretty sure I did. The QF phone operator helped reset the ESTA and personal information and I keyed everything in again but still got the error message (unfortunately don't remember the error number).

I just tried again and it worked fine. Managed to score a bulkhead seat on qf94. Very Happy

I can't check in online.....after a number of pain in the @rse phone calls to QANTAS they told me it is because my Passport name and Ticket name on QANTAS don't match and will never match until they fix their system. Something to do with "-" seperating my first name but legally correct on my passport but they just jam my name up and remove it. I am sure other people with hypens don't have the same problem. I now just pay for my seat.

Hope it works out for you. I've heard too many horror stories about passport and ticket names not being the same so make sure you have everything fixed up.

Its been happening for years on QANTAS.....only ever had a problem in Egypt and QANTAS came down and explained they can't put my legal first name - its either all jammed up and no hypen or they leave a space. Credit cards are the same some put in the hypen and some don't. My mother said I could change my name but I have not gotten around to it.

How is the QF system 'broken' & what has to be 'fixed'?

I don't think Amadeus functionality includes a "-" dash so maybe it's better to truncate the names so apart from the hyphen/dash, your name is your passport will essentially be the same as the booking & ticket.
