Got a confirmation of upgrade to F on flight to LAX tomorrow, so went in to select the seat.

There are 4 available, with none blocked according to EF, so I chose the one I wanted.

The selection 'stuck' until the end of the seat selection process (had to recap all the subsequent flights). Then it said 'seat selection cannot be confirmed' and the seat number disappeared.

Is this normal behaviour? Maybe QF is holding open all the options for a possible paying F later?

Not too fussed about any seat in F, but like to avoid 5K and 2F :)

Why not ring them up and ask about your seat selection and at the same time book your spa treatment?

Enjoy the trip, it sounds great.

AFAIK seat selection is only on offer until 75% of the cabin is selected.

Thanks everyone.

I guess I will give 'em a call - just seeking some 'ammunition' first.

Flight is ex MEL.

Markis10 what you said reads pretty clear, but to make sure: do you mean seat selection is available up to the point when 75% selection occurs, or in my upgrading case, not available until after that point. Cabin is currently 71% selected (10 out of 14). Either way, interesting point I hadn't known before.

It might be 70%, not sure of the figure but I do know it stops at a point to allow flexibility for late arrivals etc.

I have never had an issue selecting a seat when either upgraded or paying for a First class flight. Perhaps it is a glitch in the system.

last upgrade I ahd I simpley went straight online and reserved my favourite 3K

Good luck and have a great trip

We had an upgrade request in on a flight from Santiago. The day before the flight I had a look at the booking and seat selection and we were showing both the original PE and also J but when I tried to select J seats there was the "could not be confirmed" message. When we got to the airport, the upgrade had not been successful. Guess someone beat us to it. That said, PE is quite a good product, especially for day time flights.

I just called the WP line. Interesting conversation.

Initially she said that the upgrade would usually be confirmed 'in the ticket' at check-in. (THAT sounded ominous!!). Again, in 'Manage my booking' it says the upgrade has been confirmed and I see points have been taken out of my account.

Then she looked at the actual booking and she confirmed that the upgrade had been 'confirmed in the ticket', so yes, I should be able to confirm my seat selection (whew).

But she found that seat selection was locked. I asked if that was a cabin fill % thing, or a timing thing and she said "its almost certainly a timing thing, but maybe a combination of factors; they can lock it off at varying times depending on circumstances".

She put a note in my file for my request :)

You should be able to call the First Host in MEL to get seat selection.
I have had an almost identical problem ex-SYD and this is how it was fixed the night before departure.

That's interesting, thanks. I only do F via upgrades and I don't think I've ever actually seen tangible evidence of the First Host in SYD or MEL (other than if its the greeter at the F check-in area). Certainly not aware of a FH telephone number. I assumed scrounging up-graders didn't get quite all the F treatments ...

You wouldn't care to PM me the FH number, by any chance, Princess Fiona?

And gratefully received and used :)

Upshot, for info.

The First Host (in this case the MEL Flounge) looked up my reservation and told me I was in a seat which this morning, when I first went into seat selection, was already marked as occupied (also on EF). Must have been pencilled in for me ... but I suppose they didn't want it to show on my actual booking I guess in case they changed their mind. QFF Plat phone line wasn't able to tell that I had that seat allocated (unless it was done in the 2 hours between the calls).

Anyway, all sorted, but the seat allocation workings continue to be a bit obscure.

Congragulations and enjoy the service and lounge :D

I thought that the aircraft goes under airport control at T-24, so phone agents can't action seat selection requests?

In any event, I would call the F Lounge and ask them to action the request (as well as book spa treatments and a porter).

It's the same on domestic. When changing flights via the call centre on day of departure, sometimes I can't select a seat and they can't help me.

The OP was experiencing issues outside T-24.

Where did it say that?

Actually I didn't say it explicitly, but markis10 knows that tomorrow's MEL-LAX flight leaves later than the time of my posting today :)

My post #16 may have led you believe it was within T-24.
