Just letting everyone know that there appears to be a spam spoofing Qantas and Amadeus today - I am being hit with a lot of them in two waves so far today.

Title of email is Qantas Telephone Sales Australia - Itinerary And Travel Details

I haven't any forward bookings so I know it is spam and there is a zip file attached which usually means nasty stuff.

Yes had a few, just delete them.

Be better if airlines warned pax about this as some have forward bookings and may think its real then again if you have Apple OS X its a lot safer.

I had 2 this morning. Deleted them with no problem.

Thanks for the heads up - I have circulated to anyone whom has bookings with QF and JQ.

I haven't seen any yet since last month.

Maybe a good time to brush up on pc literacy then. :)

Think i will be Ok having had computers since the paper tape days, I never open anything unless dead sure, just talking to to neighbours they said they would have clicked on it and they have windowz..

Really? The only people who send zip files are those trying to infect your computer. Maybe a good time to brush up on pc literacy then. :)

I send zip files all the time - best way to audit files to the team in the UK.

Yes. I should have qualified that. Internally zip files are ok to open provided the company has good security measures in place. But I wouldn't open a zip file from a third party.

I got two of these emails overnight.

Both contain a virus that affects windows - Troj/Inject-AEN

I dont have enough posts to insert the link to Sophos website.

Virus was detected by Sophos on my Mac, but still not being detected by MS Security Essentials.

The emails could look fairly convincing to a novice computer user (i'm thinking of my out-laws) if they had just booked flights with Qantas recently.

Given your avatar I'd suggest that you watch out for the more targeted spam about Peptides ;)

Haha, if only these peptides actually increased our performance...!

Back on the topic I noticed qantas tweeted about these emails a couple of days ago.

Re: Spam emails spoofing Qantas and Amadeua

I've received a lot of emails from Qantas recently which say "Flight schedule change" but then there's nothing at all in the email so I am not sure whether these are an error or contain spam and it somehow doesn't show up, maybe because I'm using a Mac? I have around ten or so forward bookings with QF so I always get concerned and look into every single booking to ensure I'm not missing some important change. And those mails look pretty much exactly like ones which really tell you about flight changes- I got enough of the latter as well lately  Anyone else getting those mails and/or know why I get them?

Well I am not getting them but don't have much upcoming QF activity. But with the blank emails from QF you are getting there would seem to be 2 obvious possibilities. Either they are legitimate emails from QF and not displaying properly on your particular device or they are actually the spam emails described and you are not seeing the zip attachments for some reason. What device and operating system are you using? How good is your email spam filter or your ISP good at filtering out spam?

I use Mac OS X 10.6.8 on an Imac desktop computer and my internet provider is Exetel. I do quite often get mails from QF which actually DO contain information so it could either really be those dodgy spam emails or Qantas might randomly send out emails without any info in them.

Hmm - interesting. I wonder if other Mac users have the same issues? Problem could be with all Macs, maybe just your Mac or maybe something in the Qantas email system? Maybe its all working as its supposed to and either your Mac or the webmail you are using is just eliminating legitimate emails as spam, or eliminating spam as spam.

At least with a Mas OS you are less likely to actually get virus/malware as I would suppose that most malware/virus stuff is still very much targetted at Windows & PC devices. Is this still true?

Was reading during the week of the first large scale targeting if Mac OS using flash and java exploits.

Ah yes - good old Flash and Java  , after making email and the internet sometimes unuseable and unsafe for Windows/PC users - its time for them to screw around all the Apple OS users now....

I've de-installed all traces of flash from my Mac in memory of Steve Jobs. I never really miss it on my IOS devices so I figured I don't need it on my Mac either. Most things that insist on running in flash are either annoying advertising or companies that really I don't need to do business with. Their loss :D
