Recreating an airline meal at home for a dinner party

Firstly, you are going to have to get rid of the dining room table, then jam all the chairs into the laundry (if it's small enough, you don't want too much room) and get everyone a tray table of some description. Use the flimsiest plastic cutlery available.

Or, just hand out bottles of water and say no catering was loaded.

Just serve the NPPP and tell them "it's business class".....

Also, thinking aloud....:p
Are you going to randomly distribute wet toilet paper and urine throughout the bathroom?
What about a fasten seatbelt sign when everyone is busting to use the toilet?
Who's going to provide the flatulence from which there is no escape?
Will the "FA" spill coffee on their clothes?
And dont forget a 2 hour "immigration" queue at the start and end of the night.

Enjoy!

To make the whole event authentic, at the conclusion of the evening, as they are about to leave, you notify them that their bags have been delayed, and will be delivered to their homes the next day sometime between 9am and 6pm.

Just before they leave the table announce that a plane is still at our allocated gate so they must remain seated with seat belts on until we are at the gate.

Make sure that you perform a safety briefing indicating all the exits and where the toilets are located for both Business & Economy passengers

See if you can get the Aussie Cricket Team over to assist you

So it looks like the idea of having a "holidays" themed dinner is to turn people off from actually going on holidays...

LOL, I did something similar back in 2008 (see attached pic). The disposable cutlery was sourced from unused Qantas short-haul packs, and you can buy the small wine bottles from some boutique wine shops. I remember that the big chain stores didn't stock them for some reason. The dessert was a mousse if I recall correctly, and it came in its own plastic bowl, so I didn't need to source it separately. As you can see, I took the easy route and didn't prepare any of the food myself, so this saved having to buy those square plastic containers you mentioned.

My parents are hosting a themed dinner party for 10 people with the theme being 'holidays'.

They would like to try and recreate a standard Y long-haul dinner meal. The actual food itself is not a problem, but they are wondering how to present it authentically. They are hoping to be able to find some kind of trays and the little plastic containers (square and rectangular) that the meals usually come in (with the clear plastic tops). Any suggestions on where to find this? Online? Catering suppliers can do pre-wrapped plastic cutlery sets but minimum orders of 250 sets which is obviously far too much!

Thanks

What a fantastic dinner party theme.
Would be great if you could find an old FA uniform. For crockery try all the Asian $2 shops, Daiso and also Lomards. Good luck and hope they have great night, please report back with pictures please..

Even better find an old FA.

And if the guests are still around serve the famous "Snack Box" for supper. The one where you throw away the contents and eat the box.

And use one of the kid's table tennis bats to serve the tea and coffee.

Maybe after dinner you could set up a really, really, small TV and watch a movie. Of course, you have to pause it about 5 times and make some random announcement.

And turn it off 5 minutes before the end.

You also have to set up a QP and a J lounge in other rooms for status guests to use before dinner. They will also need access to shower facilities, your computer and most importantly the grog.

I can't believe you guys are ONLY talking about the food... cmon I mean...

And if any guests make inappropriate comments the dinner must be stopped and the Federal Police called.................................!

No thanks. I will pass on that one.

Don't forget salt and pepper in paper sachets.

McDonalds could supply these.

How about setting up web page for OLCI and charge for preselected seating?

Charge extra for a seat close to the front & back doors (exit row seating).

They will all have to wait until AFTER the meal and form a queue outside the toilet door. (nah you can't go BEFORE can you?)

What a hilariously funny idea! Haven't laughed that well in a few days, just reading all the comments on here!
