Used E gate this morning in BNE and it was so quick, what puzzled me was the fact that out of a plane load of 300 or so I was the only one who used it. Had Aussies sprinting past me to get to immigration with their express passes, yet I still beat them to the carousel, go figure ;).

Is E gate the same as Smart Gate?

I am guessing SmartGate.

It's becoming more popular in MEL; last time I had to queue up to get my passport scanned to get the slip and then had to queue up again at the gate.

Whole process was about 7 minutes ... :p

Getting my e passport mixed up with smart gate, need more sleep.

Scanned my passport and then got rejected at the gate  Ended up in the back of the regular queue.

The last dozen or so times I've used it rather than express passes. Tends to be much quicker. I've had it happen twice where the gates haven't opened and they've shunted me to an express queue right next to them, and was through within a few minutes.

Same limited experience.

I guess my face doesnt look like my photo (according to the computer).

Assuming it is then I too wonder why it isn't used as much as it is. It is IMHO they only way to enter the country, especially when doing HLO. Can't remember the last time I used an immigration line.

I use it all the time without issue.

It's great in NZ where you can use it inbound and outbound.

it was the same in SYD when they rolled it out - everyone was afraid of at first (no queues yay!) now it gets very busy, as does AKL

Probably depends how much good food and wine you've had on your holiday. A bit chubbier in the face on return :D

In order to match my passport photo I have to remember to remove my glasses, otherwise there is no match and delayed whilst sorting out the problem

SWMBO had real issues with it working for her at first, until she made sure that she kept her head completely still while staring unblinkingly at the Video screen.

Once she had that "down pat" she has not had a problem.

I think it's actually the different (read: less) hair in real life.....

I found the exact same thing when i returned from NZ 3 weeks ago ! Only a small percentage of the people used it

Also used it many times both here and NZ. never had a problem

I try to use it when its available.

When I have had problems, an officer directed me to the first available counter and hence I jumped the queue (legally).
