Earn up to 30,000 Velocity Points with the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card[SUP]#[/SUP]

Receive 10,000 bonus Points when you apply for a Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card by 31 March 2013 and make a retail purchase within 3 months of card approval. Receive an additional 20,000 bonus Points when you spend $6,000 within 3 months of card approval.
Below are some of the other great Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card benefits:

  • Buy a Virgin Australia domestic seat and we’ll give you a complimentary seat* on the same flight up to four times every year. Just cover the booking & service fees. Flights subject to availability & require 21 days advance purchase, conditions apply.
  • An impressive balance transfer rate of 2.9%p.a. for the first 6 months^, reverting to the current cash advance rate of 20.99% p.a after 6 months.
  • Standard earn rate of 1 Velocity Point per $1 spent up to $1,500 per month and then 1 Velocity Point for every $2 thereafter.
  • You'll get all this for an annual fee of $129.

I'm tempted... This seems like a good deal at $129 for 30k points. Has it been any better via previous Velocity CC promos? I could care less for the four free partner flights or any of the other card benefits, I'm just after some quick, cheap n dirty VFF points.

50K and 200 SC's for $99 late 2011 but for some ( myself included) it was more painful than childbirth to get them ;)

Yup, no doubt that was the best offer in the last year which I foolishly did not take advantage of. Disregarding those super promo specials, I can't think/find anything of similar value.

Does any one know if its possible to cancel your card and apply again to get the points bonus? I missed out on the points bonus deal last year because Virgin Money screwed up my application.

Just adding my data point into the thread - that I successfully got approved for the Virgin Money Visa Plat in Feb and the first bonus 10K VFF points were honoured and posted correctly in Velocity, I have until May to spend $6K on the card to get the bonus 20K VFF points so will let you guys know if they honour that.

Apart from the "over the top" paranoid and intrusive security features online in particular - the card has been good and has done everything I need it to do.

Same with us EastWest. We have had no problems with the Plat Visa...all points posting correctly

May or may not be possible. You would need to close the account entirely I would think. The offer is still on - on a number of different cards so provided you have the time and inclination to go through re-application proccess I can't see why not.

Did you try to talk to Virgin Money about the mistake made in your application, what sort of mistake was it?

That is a decent offer but I notice the balance transfer rates have increased and the balance transfer period reduced.

I applied in November when the offer was for 15,000 Velocity points and made a $50 purchase on the card and received 7,550 Velocity points. Not interested in the remaining points as the spend is too high. I will cancel the card when the balance transfer expires in November and then try and start again.

Yes JohnK - a good example of YMMV as I was not transferring a balance at all - so the interest rate and balance transfer period did not matter to me. But it does matter to other people of course! Reducing the balance transfer period is a sign that maybe a lot of people in the past did the balance transfer and then churned the card once they picked up the bonus VFF points.

I imagine that for some people, churning cards and picking up bonus points could be a full time occupation, really only limited to the effect it may have on your credit rating and the inconvenience/effort involved in the application/cancellation/re-application proccess - which isn't too bad except with PAYE salary people whom have to provide proof of employment via a phone number of their Employer HR manager. For this reason alone (not trying to drive my HR manager insane with contact from banks & credit card companies) I limit my churn.

Any other PAYE employees found a way around this whole "for credit check purposes we want to ring and annoy your employer HR manager" problem?

Yes a case of YMMV.

I am only interested in low rate balance transfers and if I can get FF points at the same time then that is a bonus.

I generally find credit card applications painless and in my experience they have no effect on my credit rating.

That is something that HR needs to worry about.

I used this offer for my partner who hasn't had a credit card in her name for 20years. No need for balance transfer or worry about the rate as we pay off within the statement periods anyways. Will use this short-term to collect the 30,000 bonus points and then limit spending to under $1500 on this card to ensure future points are maximised....until the next offer comes around. At this point, bonus points don't seem to be posted until the 1st statement is issued, which is fair enough anyways.

** Also, anybody know if Velocity pooling means the bonus points go straight from my partners account to mine ?? :)

HR departments mainly exist to provide a service to the comany's employees, so I would not worry about it. You are keeping them employed.

Yes true - but Virgin Money were quite adamant about speaking to a company HR rep and would not accept any other documentary evidence that I have worked for my employer for >4 years. Surely just looking at the last 3-4 ATO group certificates would have been better than ringing someone up? Unlike most CC applications that I have gone through in the past, who have been satifsfied with group certificates.

When I applied for this card they did call up work, but then they asked to speak to me! They didn't even ask to speak to anyone else about me.

Does the $1500 limit at 1:1 earn rate for flyer card based on per calendar month or anniversary month?
If calendar month, if I get the card mid month, do I get the full $1500 quota for that month or pro-rata?

It is per statement period.

10k points bonus with first month spend posted today. Will look to put 6k total through the card in first 3 months to claim the next 20k and then think about different visa / mc options after that... Waiting for another domestic j sale later in the year to use the 2 for 1s as have already got a full travel diary until October

This offer has been dropped to 10k + 10k after $5k spend. Easier to hit the bonus spend but at a massively reduced bonus.

Lucky I copied the offer when I took it (the 10K + 20K after the $6K spend in the first 3 months) - will be interesting to see if I get credited the 20K if I make the $6K spend or if they try to get away with only giving people 10K VFF points in the hope that they have forgotten the original offer.

Anyone here reached the $6K spend yet and seen the extra 20K VFF points arrive yet?
