I'm a newbie so please excuse incorrect abbreviations! Tried googling but can't find info I need. Travelling QF business (J?) BNE-LAX and arrive TB with 6 hour stopover till econ (?) AS flight LAX-PDX. OWE status. Question: which lounge/s can I access to while away the hours comfortably (with partner)?

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Welcome to AFF.

Is your oneworld status with QFF?

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Thanks Serfty, that does sound promising. I just really want to be able to find somewhere to relax and shower while waiting the six hours between the long haul flight and the next flight. Since my husband is WP and I am SG - beginning to understand the codes ;) - I guess we can access the First or Business lounges in the Tom Bradley Terminal for a few hours since our onward flight is a OW ticketed flight (AS codeshare AA)? Then we can just head over to T6 later for our next flight and try to get into the Alaska Board Room - it won't matter if we can't by then. Is this possible?

I don't think that will work unless you are travelling with carry-on luggage only. If you have collected bags off the carousel and got them put on to your next AS flight, I don't think you will be allowed back into TBIT airside to go to the lounges but will be directed to the terminal your AS flight departs from.

If it does work I would be interested as I often do that route myself, but as I am usually in Y from LAX to PDX I usually spend a few hours sitting in the grotty terminal using matchsticks to prop my eyelids open until the onward flight leaves.

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

You won't be able to access any Terminal at LAX your flight does not depart from.

After customs/immigration processing at TBIT you end up landside, so you won't be able to re-enter TBIT and get to the oneworld lounge,

Do you have an AA flight number on AS metal? (That was not clear from the first post.)

Thanks Anna, I hadn't thought of that.

Thanks Serfty, that all makes sense. It's not looking promising at all - really not looking forward to this part of the trip! Our onward flight has an AA flight number, operated by Alaska Airlines.

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

The upside of this connection is that by the time you arrive in PDX, get into town, settle in to your hotel and maybe have a snack - it's (earlyish) bed time and you wake up next morning feeling not too bad considering.

I'm always on the QF codeshare with AS for the SCs, not the AA codeshare. Not sure if AA codeshare gives you better lounge options. Also not sure if the lounges in that terminal would have showers even if they let you in - you can probably check whether there are showers online on the AS website.

If you're really worried about the layover time then I think UA might have better flight timings. No QF SCs though.

The reason we are AA codeshare is because we booked our Aus to US QF return flights early while Business was on sale but we didn't know what our internal US movements would be till much later and I've just recently booked the internal US flights online and went with AA thinking it would help us to get some lounge access. There are no showers in the AS Board Room anyway, so if we don't get in with our WP and SG status (I didn't realise Alaska wasn't a One World airline - just a Qantas partner for points) I guess we'll survive outside along with everyone else ;)

I really hate to say this and I hope I'm wrong but I think that if you are on a AA flight number with AS, you won't earn QF points. It needs to be a QF or AS flight number, I think. :(

Serfty might know better.

This is one of the reasons why I keep a separate, little-used AAdvantage membership. I just can't bear not earning any points on flights. ;) Plus, once I finally get to LTG I'm probably going to put all my points into AA for the better points burn.

The flight has both an AA and AS flight number, booked through AA but operated by AS and the ticket says to check in with AS - is that elegible for points? To be honest though we have so many points that we struggle to use, and it's such a little flight that we wouldn't get many points anyway, so I'm not fussed about the points. It was really the lounge access that I was hoping to get for the 6 hour layover :(

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Currently QFF treats all AA flight numbers (AA Marketed) as AA flights regardless of the operating metal, so full earn as for AA eligibility in this case. (What booking class? - S? N? ...)

Lounge access may not be available with being AA flight number, but it won't hurt to try by showing you OWE card.

Yes, that's what I thought since it was purchased from AA - a OW airline. Ticket says booking code M.

Not always - it depends on the oneworld airline. See here: Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

For SC earning on AA it states:
Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.

For SC earning on AB it states:
Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP] alliance airlines.

... Ticket says booking code M.
That will earn at 0.5 of a point per mile with a minimum earn of 500.

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Thanks serfty and Anna, I'll let you know how we get on with the lounge access in T6.

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Update to my previous post - we are now in the AS Board Room in T6 at LAX. There were no problems at all getting in - husband's Emerald status got him and a fellow traveller in and my sapphire got me in.

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

Terrific. I'm hopping up to SJC next month on Horizon (Alaskan) with a QF flight number.

Care to review the lounge in T6? :)

Re: LAX Lounge access for OWE

I visited this lounge recently, and aside from the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap there's nothing of note to report. Food selection is mediocre (like the basic AA Admiral's Club), there are no showers and the desk staff seemed quite rude. Better than sitting in the terminal I guess, but only because of the beer...
