Still a bit ambiguous but still good to have at least some clarity on the Asia Strategy. (Except for the loss of some routes, cut down of existing flights)
Announcements - Search results - Australian Securities Exchange - ASX

The cutting of SIN-PER to once daily, ceasing ADL-SIN.
The article mentions they will be strengthening ties with local partners JAL, China Eastern, Jet Airways, Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines)
Also the possibility of using 787's for direct destinations such as Beijing, Seoul, Mumbai, Delhi and Tokyo from 2016. (These dates are too far away and in my mind are needed desperately now)

Edit: the more and more I read this release, the more I realise it leaves more questions in my mind than it answers..

Culling QF81 ex ADL, and the PER -HKG flights as well as reducing PER-SIN to one service hardly seems ambiguous, while I am sure Sydney based people will lament the loss of the second HKG service with its better timings for business in Australia, in fact the retiming of all flights seem to be anti local business.

While I am happy to have more HKG services ex BNE, I would have hoped we could see the possibility of a day flight ex Asia coming home to at least a few Australian ports.

Not so good for PER

PER-HKG ceases to operate
PER-SIN reduced from daily double to daily.

On the plus side the new PER-SIN schedule is much better!

What I mean by ambiguous is around the lack of clarity on the extended partnerships with JAL, China Eastern, Jet Airways, Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines. Will it be proper codeshares, will it be just be better timed services to meet the existing partner flights as standard interline flights?etc.
Too many unanswered questions in the media release.

I will miss QF87/88 ... makes connections from China on Dragonair via HK harder as you need to leave China cities around lunch time to make QF128.
Hopefully they can add another flight in later in the day if traffic improves for them.

Wonder if they will reroute me on CX? Im coming back HKG-PER on the 2nd April :(

Also 2 of my Per-Sin flights are affected grr

Aha! Enhancement returns. And no improved timing makes up for reducing the number of flights into Asia. Return timing is just as bad as always.

At least there are options to HKG with CX, but OneWorld into SIN is now a problem.

Never ceases to amaze me how SQ can go up to 4x daily on such route, CX can have in excess of 10x weekly, yet the roo struggles with a double daily to SIN and can't compete with a 3x weekly to HKG.

Not really feeling the love with the latest announcements.

I do like the way they tacked this onto the end:

Qantas has also brought forward the end date for its loss-making Frankfurt services by six months to 15 April 2013.

Hmm - I don't like new timings of direct flights into Asia. An earlier flight to SIN or HKG now means getting up at 6AM to get to the airport, not that much time in the F lounge either (and breakfast rather than lunch menu as well).

I imagine that both SQ and CX use them to feed into their network. QF will only really be feeding into the 3K network, which is not exactly a compelling proposition!

Sad news for ADL people

We are used to sad news. As long as we still get good JASAs via other ports (where the ADL-xx_ leg is virtually free, but yields 40 to 80 SCs), then I'm not too unhappy.

Mmm, HKG-PER and SIN-PER were two good options for JASA routes back to ADL for me. Not great for anyone...except maybe Qantas.

What happens if your current bookings are affected by these changes? I am on QF29 later in the year,I have a connecting flight from SYD. I will now need to connect the night before or I will have an OMG o'clock trip from NTL that morning  Should I ring and ask to be changed to a flight the night before or wait for them to call me, thoughts anyone?

I like the retiming for more daytime services to Asia. Very happy to see BNE-HKG back to daytime.
