Just wondering, has anyone heard if Hawaiian will be adding a direct flight Mel- hnl......or is it just a wishful rumour? Please let it be true!

Why connect cairns with Honolulu? It is the equivalent of connecting the gold coast with Vegas although I can't see the benefits of either.

Cause I live in CNS :), but really if it comes off JQ would know how much traffic to expect, it would open up a gateway for many to go onwards to other US cities and miss that awful LAX, and visitors to OZ can see the wonders of the GBR etc. or could use it as a hub out after seeing other cities. QF did have this out of CNS some 15 years ago.

Yes, QF did fly CNS-HNL for many years, with the aircraft then flying on to SFO, if memory serves me correctly.

Limewood and I had this discussion offline, I used to fly it often and last flew it in 98, routing was QF25 SYD-CNS-HNL-LAX, QF26 LAX-HNL-SYD with a 747 combi, sometimes a 747SP. CNS served only on outbound

It is possible but they only launched their BNE service 2 months ago and an AKL service is scheduled to start mid march so do they have enough aircraft for a MEL service?

The A330s have freed up fleet a fair bit with an additional 3 still to come, I would expect their ex DL 767s to be retired soon of which there are 4 but the rest of the 767 fleet is relatively young.

where did you hear this?

Heard a rumour when in Hawaii earlier this month.....maybe it was hopeful thinking by the many disgruntled jetstar hnl- Mel travellers after their Saturday flight was cancelled, then the next one 3 days later had a computer breakdown so an over 3 hour delay. Geeze it would be great if it was true! Hope Hawaiian are listening.

Routing and equipment did vary.
In 1989 QF25 flew SYD-CNS-HNL-YVR return with a 742.
In HNL there were connections to SFO and LAX.
