Hi,

I am going overseas to Europe next year and am looking for recommendations on hotels in London, Paris and Amsterdam. I am hoping to use some of my Hilton and Priority club points, so in those chains would be preferred. I am HH diamond and PC Platinum as I am traveling with my wife it will be good to show her some of those benefits and get the best return for the points, so room up-grades would be nice and executive club if they have one in the hotel.

We are looking at about 4 nights in Paris, 3 nights in Amsterdam and 3 nights in London around mid may to early june.

So any recommendations on where to stay and more importantly where not to stay.

Thanks

Couldn't recommend the "Crowne Plaza London: The City" enough. Wonderful property in what we found was a pretty good location. Only time we've been to London so don't know of alternatives, might be something better but the hotel itself was spotless and rooms well sized

Thanks Must Fly, I will check it out, we had been looking at the CP St James as an option.

No worries, forgot to mention, we used points too but for being plat we were given free Wi-Fi for up to 2 devices which was great

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Amsterdam: Marriott Renaissance. I stayed in July this year. I was very impressed with everything about this hotel. Rooms, staff, breakfast. Fantastic.
Quiet street so you don't get noise from tram and pedestrians like you do on mains roads.

Novotel now called Pullman at St Pancras in London. Great hotel. Let me know if you would like more info.

Somehow missed Paris

Not sure how many PC points you have, but we also used PC points to stay at the IC Le Grand. In an old building, yes, but a fabulous hotel - you can tell it is a class above. Only spent 2 nights there but quite well located with the Opera metro station just there and quite close to some shopping areas

If you decide to stay somewhere other than the desired chains in London......try Covent Garden Hotel. Love this place.

If you have Hilton Diamond I would look at Hilton chains first; PC Platinum gets you nothing by itself where Diamond will get you lounge access with Hilton.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza St James last Saturday; good location, I got a good size room; well good size for UK/Europe. Crowne Plaza St James cost me 179 GBP the night I was there; but it was 449 GBP the previous night; I didn't stay there that night.

I would choose Hilton first; I heard Hilton Canary Wharf is good but have never stayed there so it depends on the rates at the time.

I stayed at the Hilton CDG lounge ok, good if you have late arriving flight or early departure but probably not in the best location although catching the train into town wasn't so bad.

If you can use Hilton points for their Canary Wharf property make sure you include the club lounge access. It is really good.

I am hoping to use the Hiltons where possible, and if the points cost is reasonable, and also use up some of my PC points. At present I have about 280K HH points and 350K PC points, so would prefer to use them where possible to save some cash on the accommodation.

So please let me know your recommendations.

Stayed at The Trafalgar Hilton in London, very unusual small boutique Hilton right in the middle of Trafalgar square. Good room size, fantastic breakfast for Gold/Diamond and little extras (no lounge though). Excellent to transport links and attractions. Can get some good points plus pay rates for around 23,000 points plus 45 pounds, which is good for London rates.

Mella2007, thanks had a look at the Trafalgar, but end up with booking the Waldorf Hilton, as it offered queen beds rather then only double beds at the Trafalgar, the better half prefers queen size :) So 5 nights for 200K points, so not to bad and better than 1200 pounds for 5 nights.

We have decided to skip Amsterdam this trip.

Now I need to look at Paris, which will be on PC points, as they have a better range closer to the center of Paris.

The beds at The Trafalgar are King sized despite what the description says

I've re-booked here for next year as I loved the boutique style in a Hilton brand.
Enjoy your trip, it sounds fantastic :)

Princess Fiona it is a pity they don't make it clear on the website, but when I looked it only came up with the double bed rooms when booking on points, maybe next time.

Well Paris is now booked, took Must FLy's tip and went with the IC Le Grand, another 200K points for 4 nights, but better then over $2,200 AUD for 4 nights.

My wife is now glad I do so much work travel, as her flights are on points and all our accommodation, saving over $11K AUD. I paid for my flights to London as we didn't have enough points for both to fly business and I can make better use of the SC's and earn more points then her due to status so it made more sense that my ticket was paid and hers on points.

All the flights and accommodation are now sorted so all we need to work out is what we want to see and what we need to pre book.

They are indeed King beds. Their website needs an overhaul.

The Lounge at the Waldorf is supposed to have a very nice afternoon tea, and if you like theatre..there is one directly next door. (Top Hat, the Musical from memory)

Thanks for the tip, I am sure my wife will enjoy the afternoon tea. It will be interesting to see if I get any upgrade as a HH Diamond (earned) when staying on points, not expecting it but it would be nice if it happens, but at least we will get lounge access anyway.

At the IC it will also be interesting what, if any, upgrades I get as a PP platinum, again not expecting it but it would be nice if it happens.
