Due to depart at 8am, the Prince had a meeting scheduled with NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell in Sydney, followed by a reception and concert by Jos Van Immerseel at the Sydney Opera House, hosted by Sydney festival director and proud Belgian Lieven Bertels.

Both those events were cancelled, prompting some pointed criticism for the flying kangaroo from Mr Bertels via social media.

"Sad to see the Sydney leg of HRH Prince Philippe's Oz visit ruined because of a typical #qantas #fail. Great PR!,'' Mr Bertels tweeted.

"Seems like @qantasairlines wants to give our Belgian crown prince a fair go at experiencing their real service. #fail #IncredibleDelay.''

Delays happen - seems like they had no contingencies planned. The prince's party that is.

The real question is if he was so important, where was his private jet (hired or otherwise)?

There was a time when this would be posted as a Qantas beat-up by Nonews. Yes it happened, but is it worthy of posting here?

It made me giggle as a Belgian :D

So which flight was he supposed to be on? Couldn't they put him on the 9am or 11am or 1pm or... flight

It was a private jet he was on, it just had a red tail (it was a charter reading between the lines given there is no delayed Perth Sydney flights and no 8AM departure)

There is no 8AM, and given it was a party of 150 in number, relocating them on a commercial flight would have been an interesting exercise.

Would explain it, couldn't see any delayed flights either, last time he did one of those stints he chartered a LH 747 which was an interesting sight at BRU airport.

I wonder when was the last time an Australian politician did a trade trip with 140 Australian businessmen/women (as opposed to a study tour with SWMBO/Girl Friend/First Man). Given it was a 7 hour delay reported, that would sync with the logisitics in getting another aircraft in from the east coast, not sure what else they could do!

Edit- No surprise on further digging to see there are a few inaccuracies with the article, looks like its 40 businessman!

Prins Filip, 2 ministers, 40 Belgische ondernemers, pers. Iedereen moet in Perth het vliegtuig verlaten. Technische problemen

Makes it a sticky situation indeed if it was a chartered flight:oops:

What about the other Passengers on the Flight? surly they are as important as a scion of an hereditary little family from a rather unimportant European Country, and if I may add a Country manufactured to keep the Dutch and French from each claiming the flattest most boring part of the European lowlands, if you care about another member of the Born to Rule group of European families do yourselves a favour google the Belgian Royal Family, enjoy!!!!!

Guess the other alternative was to find another (commercial customer) flight, take its aircraft so the royalty could be on their way, then deal with the consequences of a standard commercial flight being cancelled.

From another article it would appear 182 businessmen

Vanuit België zijn 182 zakenlui en vertegenwoordigers van de publieke sector meegereisd. In twaalf dagen worden zes steden aangedaan: Perth, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington.

Of course the real story is whether the cabin crew got given some Belgian Chocolates ;)

surely they could have borrowed a couple of turboprops from QFlink or Skywest

Not a very interesting story IMHO, but what is more interesting is that the word cough* has been used in the title.

I have had infractions (Reason: Offensive / Vulgar) for using **** stars in a reply within a thread.

Poor taste, poor form especially from someone of forum "power"

The title is the title of the article (^0_0^) , the only edited bit was in brackets.
