In what way? Because you prefer Qantas, or because it offers better value?
Lets look at the differences:

Annual Fee:
Velocity Card = $0
Qantas Card = $0

Up-front 7500 points:
Velocity Card = 7500 points after spending $300
Qantas Card = 5000 points after spending $300, plus 2500 points after first eligible spend on Qantas products and services

Introductory Interest Free Period:
Velocity Card = None
Qantas Card = 0% interest for first 6 months

Points Earning Rate:
Velocity Card = 1 point per $1, plus 1 additional point per $1 spent with Virgin Australia
Qantas Card = 1 point per $1, plus 1 additional point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services in Australia

Others:
Chip&Pin, Refund Protection, Purchase Protection, Global Service, Online Access, emergency Card Replacement etc all the same for both cards.

Card colour and logo:
Velocity Card = Red with Velocity logo
Qantas Card = Blue with Qantas logo

So the only real difference I can see that would make someone say one is better than the other is that the Qantas Card is offering 6 months interest-free. Other than that they seem very similar.

Maybe zbpanda means what the card actually looks like? The QF one has the globe on it while the Virgin one is just red with two white dashes (jet streams) on it.

But yes, Velocity card undoubtedly more valuable. $6,900 spent on it gets you 6,900 Velocity points, SYD-MEL one-way. You need to spend $8,000 on the QF card for the same award.

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

how does this one compare to the discovery card? how many days interest free is it? is the annual fee free for life?

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

Deewhy,

nice of you to use what looks like a referral link to the card - how much do you get?

EDIT : my apologies - genuine link from Velocity site.

It is the same link as is used on the Velocity homepage. Wouldn't think DeeWhy gets anything from that!

All Amex cards can be compared at their web site. Click the card type/features you want and look at what each card offers:

And see my previous post for a comparison between Amex Velocity Escape card and Amex Qantas Discovery card.

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

Virgin High Flyer seems to have better perks than this card (ignoring Amex vs MC/VISA). Anyone disagree?

You'd expect that, given that this card is annual fee free.

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

So, would you be eligible for this Amex and for the 7500 Velocity points bonus if you already have the Discovery QF version of the card? Ideally I'd like to keep both, but I wouldn't mind closing the QF version if I can get the bonus anyway.

If you click on the "apply" button, it will ask you whether you are an existing Amex card holder, and also if you want your existing card transferred over to the new card you are applying for. You should be eligible for the bonus once the conversion is approved.
