QF107 'domestically' LAX to JFK

A couple of questions along the same topic. My son (who is not an experienced traveler) is going QF15 BNE to LAX then on QF107 LAX - JFK . He has a couple hours in the airport in between flights.
Does he have to get his bags and clear customs or will he do that in JFK?
And will QF 107 depart from the same terminal? the QANTAS website talks about terminal 4 but the LAX website talks about QANTAS using terminal F.

Cheers

Customs is cleared in LA, so bags are collected then dropped off if they are tagged the whole way through (which they should be).
