LCC tour of Asia

I thought I might tell you about my upcoming LCC tour of Asia.

I am planning a 6 month RTW trip in 2014 but I have only been out of Australasia once before so thought I would do a short inexpensive trip and see if I enjoy overseas travel.

It all started when I received a email promotion for Scoot. I thought why not and booked a return flight. I then looked around and thought I would experience a bit more of Asia. (I have actually been to Singapore on the way back from my one long haul trip)

I decided to go to KL Macau and HK. Total price five international flights $400.59 plus $11.60 in fees on my Jetstar platinum card but that then gets me my travel insurance.

My flights and prices are as follows:

SYD - SIN - Scoot - $103 - includes standard seat selection as I wanted an aisle. Carry on only.
SIN - KUL - Jetstar Asia - $13.98 - no extras or seat selection only a very short flight.
KUL - MAC - Air Asia - $85.01 - seat 1D two sandwiches and bus from city to LCC terminal
(will catch ferry to HK)
HKG - SIN - Jetstar Asia via Tiger price beat - $79.97 includes 15kg luggage
SIN - SYD - Scoot - $118.63 - flybageat includes aisle seat selection food and 15kg check in.

I know it is probably hell on wings for some but I will let you know how I go.

Some very good prices there.
Have flown them all and found no issues. You should have gone a hot meal on Air Asia - surprisingly decent.

Assume you are stopping over in KL? As Jetstar is main terminal, Air Asia the LCC terminal - you can get a bus or bus/train to LCC or train direct to main terminal.

The SIN-SYD Scoot flight is an ugly time... I recommend the extra $30 for more legroom - generally that cabin is less packed.

Look forward to hearing how you go. I have travelled LCC & not encountered any great problems (maybe lucky) but I have also put in a fair amount of planning when doing those trips. I have a suspicion that many people that comment vocally on LCC have never used or intend to use LCC's. There will be times when the wheels fall off but then look at the posts on here where people are upset by mainstream providers.

No spending the weekend there. Was planning to catch the train from the main terminal to city and then think I have booked a bus through the flight to the LCC. Flight to MAC is very early Mon morning so was planning on going out to the Tune hotel late Sunday evening going straight to bed then walk to the flight.

Some very good prices there.

If it was not for golf clubs and seat selection I would consider using LCCs a little more in SE Asia.

Yes LCC and golf clubs didn't go together unfortunately.

Flight to MAC is very early Mon morning so was planning on going out to the Tune hotel late Sunday evening going straight to bed then walk to the flight.

If you haven't already, book your Tune room - they sell out very quickly most of the time.

And the Tune KLCC is still a decent hike in humid KL...
Other option would be to stay last night near KL Sentral (eg. Hilton) and get the bus direct (albeit an hour journey)

Thanks for your post fersea. It made me calculate my total cost for a similar 2 week trip I'm doing with my partner in early November, starting in DRW. All flights are hand luggage only and prices are per person. We are stopping at Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur & Kuching.

DRW-SIN Jetstar $164 with plus bundle and seat 1D
SIN-BKK Jetstar $93.70 with plus bundle and seat 7C
BKK-KUL Air Asia $63.80 with seat 1D
KUL-KCH Air Asia $62.55 with seat 1D
KCH-SIN Air Asia $63.80 with seat 6C
SIN-DRW Jetstar $113.35 with plus bundle and seat 1D

Total cost for 6 flights is $558.05

We are also staying in Hiltons for 13 nights at an average cost of around $100 per night. As HHonors Diamond this includes breakfast, evening drinks and canapes, and very probably, some very nice room upgrades. These 7 stays will re-qualify me for HH Diamond.

At a total cost of around $1200 each for two weeks accommodation and flights, I think this is excellent value.

We are going to have one week in Queensland shortly after we get back from Asia which is costing about $1000 each, and no Hilton stays, so I'm going to have to pay for alcohol too:!: Not such good value :mrgreen:

There are a lot of cheap fares ex DRW. You oculd always kick it off with a cheap JASA eg TSV/xBNE/DRW for 24,000 points plus AUD150.00 approx.

I know Silk Air now fly DRW/SIN so not sure if you can redeem VA ff points for a ticket or not.
