Find My iPad app leads to recovery of missing iPad

There was a recent news item in Australia I recall where someone used Find my iPad to work out where it was and the legal implications of that as it could be trespassing, not to mention the trespassing that occurred to get the iPad in the first place.

Unfortunately, when my iPad was stolen it was wiped, assumedly, so I never got a location on it to lock it or do anything else.

Pretty sure the 'electronic trespass' argument didn't stand up in court.

And for those with Apple iOS devices or Mac computers who'd like to set this feature up, it's part of iCloud. You can get all the details on it at:
Apple - Support - iCloud - Find My iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac

I also strongly recommend the use of Prey which provides similar (actually, far more advanced) functionality than iCloud. I personally use this on all my compatible devices, mainly because it runs silently in the background and is near impossible to disable unless you are the originally installing user.

In additional to straight location it also will use in-built cameras to capture images of what people are doing on the device - which provides a greater chance of identifying the thief (i.e. screencaps from when they're logged into a social network or a banking site, making identification of them a breeze).

Screw finding the ipod, steal their banking details and just grab yourself a refund and buy a real tablet :D

I use AndroidLost on my Android phone and it has helped me find my wife's phone atleast twice now (most recent today morning). These sort of apps are great for the forgetful person.
