Just checked in at Novotel Queenstown. I'm Le Club Platinum but you wouldn't know it. No status recognition. When I offered the info that I was platinum room upgrade could not be done and now I'm being told in addition that Internet is going to cost me $150 for the week.

Has anyone else had other experiences at the Novotel Queenstown?

The problem at the end of the day, is that this is a weakness of the Le Club program - there is no recognition of platinums at the Novotel properties. Anything you do get are based on what the individual properties are prepared to do.

I wish there were more defined benefits for platinums, but as it stands the points accelerator is all that is guaranteed.

I'm there right now and had the same issue....... "what's a platinum"

Greg.

I didnt think that upgrade for novotel is actually one of plat benefits. I think it's only sofitel, Pullman and thalassa?

Having said that I did get one earlier in the year... I requested it in the booking notes. Upon checkin the Front desk told me they had upgraded the room so didn't have to ask. Free net in the lobby only though.

I found it to be a very average hotel when I stayed there... And no special recognition at all.

I think I am going to try the Hilton at ZQN. Hopefully better luck with the upgrades as a HH Gold...

Hilton is out of the way though...

The Sofitel is excellent. WOuldn't bother staying anywhere else. Location is superb as well.

It's located at the edge of the CBD, near the gondola. It sits at the bottom of the hill. Queenstown CBD is pretty small and intimate, hence the convenience. Look it up on google maps.

hey
stayed there 2 weeks ago for one night on the way back to aus- same- no recognition of platinum but I did overhear her tell some people in front of us that wanted a booking that the hotel was at capacity!
so when I got home there was the generic 'rate your stay' email so I did and made a mention that there was no recognition
a few days later got a semi-personalised reply email from the front desk manager or something apologising!
not the best hotel I have stayed in but was fine for the night!

The problem is that everyone can be a LeClub Platinum, and no necessary recognition for Novotel hotels.

I did get a suite upgrade on Mercure Auckland though earlier last year on my Platinum card. So it really depends on management of each of the hotel.

Crowne Plaza Queenstown would be a good alternative. But then there are a lot of other options around ZQN anyway.

Le Club Platinum is a bit odd, if you ask me. There's a huge range if properties in the Accor family, but status only really gets recognised at Sofitel (points bonus aside).

Combine that with the requirement to book through the Accor website to earn points in the first place and you have to wonder what the point is!

The Novotel at ZQN is very ordinary. I would not stay there again

The Sofitel is excellent. WOuldn't bother staying anywhere else. Location is superb as well.
It is a nice place - used my last ever Adv+ free night there ... was a bit of a downer to subsequently stay at a nearby Mercure ... :-|

I stayed in ZQN Novotel for 6 nights last winter. I found it to be a pleasant hotel, nothing fancy, but we did receive complementary bottled water. We also had some friends travelling with us and had their room moved closer to ours at check-in.

Considering I paid ~AU$115 per night for the room, I wasn't concerned that they didn't blink an eyelid at my platinum leCA card. Sofitel was well over double this, and we already learned our lesson at the shoddy Oaks on a previous visit.

Location is excellent and the concierge was superb (negotiating last-minute private flight/tour of Milford Sound on our behalf for far under the advertised price!).

Checked in at Hotel St Moritz today. Very friendly front desk French lady, helpful concierage. Platinum member booked guest room upgraded to garden suite. Splendid spacious room. did not regret cancelled Novotel booking and book St Mo. Thank you Accor. #131
