Hi a dumb question for you guys that know sydney airport transfers well. Coming back from Hong Kong into Sydney then on to Melbourne as I couldnt get a direct flight on points. Just want to know, in Sydney will I clear immigration and customs there then need to carry my suitcase over to the other terminal on the shuttle bus or does it get checked in for the melbourne flight in the international terminal? or will my bag be transferred straight from the HKG SYD plane to the SYD MEL plane without me having to pick it up and clear customs with it and check it back in?

Thanks

Last time I did the Int-Dom thing at SYD I re-checked the luggage at the QF transfer desk located in the International terminal, and rode the transfer bus with hand luggage only. PS. Customs and Immigration must be cleared in SYD.

Roger. Thats all I needed to know, thanks tuap. Was dreading having to lug suitcases over on the bus. PHEW

OK, so you are on Qantas.

Pick up your luggage, clear Immigration and Customs, exit and turn right. Keep walking straight ahead and it will curve around to the left slightly, you'll go outside under a covered walkway to the transit area. Drop your bags off there, go through security with your carry on. A bus will take you to the domestic terminal, every 20 mins or so.

Just make sure the CX staff thru check all the luggage to MEL, show them the itinerary for the QF sector (if not on the same PNR).

Very painless!
