A Platinum Flight for $1400

In respect to travelling on AA, as a QF WP you have entry rights to any open AA A/C or F/L you can physically access at the departure airport for your AA flight on the day of departure.

That's AA flight number on AA or (otherwise) oneworld metal and for a QF WP there's no difference between being on an 'international' or a 'domestic' AA flight.

Serfty, thanks for this information. Are the lounge angels/dragons trained to allow QF WP in? Or do they try and tell you, that you have to be traveling O.S?

Thanks
Gogo

The AAngels are fantastic, so much so that they will direct you to the Flagship lounge if you want to go into the ordinary AC, had this exact experience at JFK. I only had a short time between flights and couldn't be bothered walking to the Flagship Lounge at Gate 16.
The only caveat is you should always carry and be prepared show the WP card with your AA BP as KUPP fares without non-AA OWE don't get access to the Flagship Lounges

OK. Thanks. That's good. I had thought that it may not have been that easy to get access.

A few rookie questions for those in the know. I'm considering a run to net 800-900 SCs. It seems the best value option I can come up with is PTY which comes to more than $1.2 per Sc, and nets >1000 SCs which is surplus.

However plenty of people mentioned they can find a trip for a lesser rate per SC(<$1) and can do it for 700-800 total.

1. Would anyone be kind enough to share the details of such combinations (discreetly via PM, and won't be published by me).

2. How long in advance before departure would you consider booking? I'm ran a few dates in Feb/Mar and the prices are alot higher than Oct/Nov. It seems AA favours booking within the 60 days to departure window for the best prices - as opposed to here, where price and sale availability generally goes all the way out.

rationale for the trip is not purely to get SCs. Having a long holiday in the US in March and I have a list of places to go - and of course trying to avoid AA Y for these as much as possible

Basically you run from the start point in the US to the Caribbean turn around (where you can spend a few days), if you are thinking of stopping a day or so on the US continental legs, you probably will find that the cost will blow out. Likely you will need to holiday before the start point, at the Caribbean turn around, or after you have finished the run.

Believe it or not, this is still great value, rarely will you find a SC run which is less than $1 per SC. Try searching the post which serfty recently posted, it is full of ideas

This is a great thread. Has anyone done a run similar to the OP out of HNL lately? I'm there for about 10 days next month fairly early into my Gold status year so could get almost 2 years WP with a big run.

I'll PM you some ideas later today... :)

With a thread title like this (and no insider information), I would not be surprised if SC earning on AA domestic was ripe for "enhancement"

This thread and a few others like it have been around for some time - I would consider the change of restricting loyalty bonus earning carriers to be the base response.

I guess it would be very hard to administer, since these bookings would go into the normal fare buckets, much like those who aren't booking runs. I suppose there are a few ways that it can be enhanced, but I would rather not post them here.

Guys does the "4 eligible flights" rule mean four separate tickets ?
Can I book MEL-SYD then separately book the return flight home and that will meet half of the annual requirements to retain status ?

No they dont have to be on 4 seprate tickets, the 4 eligible flights can be on the 1 PNR/booking, a PER-MEL-SYD-MEL-PER will count as 4 eligible flights.

Yes it will meet half your required eligible flights, either on 1 return ticket or 2 one way tickets.

Wonderful. And you need these 4 eligible flights before reaching WP or any status at all ? Does even SG need to meet this requirement ?

For example if say I already had 300 SCs (only 2 eligible QF flights) and flew to LAX (one more QF flight meaning a total of 3) so that's 390 then I did a huge 1000SCs AA status run so I have 1390 SCs in total would I even be SG at this point ? Or do I have to wait until I've done my 4th eligible flight (LAX-MEL) and then I will click over to WP (and sort of skip SG)?

I'm trying to work out how many QF points I would nett from my AA run so need to work when or if I will tick over to SG during the run at all.

Cheers

4 eligible flights will meet the entire requirement of 4 eligible flights.

Any status requires the 4 eligible sectors.

Get your 4 squiggle ~ flights first before you comnence any status runs otherwise you'll be stuck whichever level you're on until you've flown the 4 eligible flights.

The downside of that is you would miss out on getting your silver & gold packs on your meteoric rise to the top.

The other downside is you wouldn't get your bonus points for being WP even though you may have hit the magic 1,400 SC.

Thanks for your response.

Re: 4 squiggle flights yes I think that's what we will do.
Re: missing out on PS and SG packs, eh no biggie.

Re: not getting bonus points for WP, is that because the flights are all taken in a very short space of time ?

How long does status take to kick in once reached ? Is it like 3-4 days or even longer ? I know with flights taken with QF the points/SCs have posted the next day. Appreciate that it would take longer with AA crediting to QF but how much longer.

The actual situation is this.

I'm already SG and will still be SG for the whole US trip.
My year just reset on 30 June so I'm on 0 SCs at the moment. However by the time I start the first SC run with AA (May next year) I should already have 825 SCs. My gf would have 305 SCs.

The first SC run should net us 660 SC each. So then I would have 1485 SC and she would have 990 SC.

Our next SC run (this second one is not an actual run but going to places we actually want to go lol) starts 4 days later.

So what I want to know is; would we already click over into WP and SG for the purposes of points calculation for the second run ?

Thanks.
